Apex 2016 salinity disappointment AGAIN !!!!!

Oh and a PS.
My Apex ATO. well that's another problem, worked for a while and now the optical eyes don't work. Always show open never closed. So I have to keep the ATO off and when I need top off water I turn it on through fusion and then back off. So I have no Automatic ATO.

So to me all the Apex peripherals are leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
Had the system since Febuary of this year, the ATO without checking my reciepts late April or early May.
Have to agree - gave them all up (sold on Ebay)

I dont want to go that far. I use the information as a refrence not a fact finding mission.
Did get my hands on a Trident.
So far that unit has met my hopes and dreams.
Its always plus or minus a very small percentage of my other testing methods.
So I am not bagging on everything here and still value the Apex and its capabilities.

Curious though - if you are still using your other testing methods - to 'test' the trident (which they do not recommend - instead - rely on the calibration) - what have you gained. Not trying to be snarky - but I see people (multiple people saying I bought xxxx - and im still doing manual testing - just curious - at what point to you just trust what you paid hundreds of dollars for?

No snarky insult taken.
Yes your right. The extra testing I do or have done is because of the faulty probes.
So I checked the Trident against my other test kits a lot in the beginning.
My backup testing has substantially decreased now that the Trident has proved itself.
I think this would be the way to go with any new piece of testing equipment no matter the brand or type.
The Mindstream i would have done the same thing with untill I deemed it worthy had I gone that route.
If I were to want to switch from the trident to the mindstream I would check it with the manual kits and trident untill my confidence was earned.

Waiting for my mindstream I plan to test it once - if its in order - no reason to repeat unless an unexpected result occurs. I personally do not see (until I hear multiple people posting here) that keeping the alk between 8.6 and 8.7 all day makes any difference. :)

Sounds like you know your tank well and know where your parameters are without testing.
I am fairly new to the reefing hobby and don't have that experience.
So I need to rely on my equipment over my eye or gut.
I envy you on that but I will get there.

You will. I would chose the 'electronic' one to believe over the 'manual one' unless its completely off - then - get a third test - just (IMO) dont sweat 8.6 vs 9.0:)

Just a question is you temperature very stable or does it change?
In my big system 1 degree low is almost .5ppt change.
If you have the system dialed in at say 77 degrees and 35ppt then your tank goes to 79 during the day the back down at night you will possibly see enough difference to question your probe.
Its between 78 and 78.9

Yes I have not worried over small swings of any parameters.
If I see a full point on something then I start thinking on making an adjustment.

Yeah this sucks. Probe is a few weeks old.
