Are you always planning your next reef tank?

Is it just me or are you always thinking about your next reef tank or another new reef tank? Even if you're considering a downgrade in size you know you're wanting to make it an awesome tank! So today let's talk about it!

1. Do you often think about upgrading your saltwater reef aquarium?

2. What does your next upgrade look like in a few words? What's different? What's better?

Nope. Love our tank. Finally in a place where our tank is thriving and it's wonderful to watch everything grow together. We started our tank in February of this year, so I'm extremely happy with the progress. We will also be adding in our last two fish this month and we're done. No more corals (maybe) and definitely no more fish.

Yes 2 months in my 40g breeder and now I redid my room and have the space for bigger
2. What does your next upgrade look like in a few words? What's different? What's better?
80g shallow. Doing things right. Building a beautiful stand doing the plumbing right a nice sump and properly mounting lighting

1. Do you often think about upgrading your saltwater reef aquarium?
I go through spurts of wanting a new reef, but I have wanted something around 20 gallons for the past year or so and then I remember I'm a broke college kid who shouldn't spend money on a few reef...but I do want something a bit bigger

2. What does your next upgrade look like in a few words? What's different? What's better?
Waterbox 20 cube or 25 peninsula (maybe secret Santa gift???), more gorgonians, and maybe a 5th fish. Really not much will change, except I might get KP Aquatics live rock if I upgrade

My current 60g FOWLR is enough trouble to maintain, I am satistfied with it and am loathe to go up in size or add inverts or coral. But I sometimes like to entertain the notion of a 20g FOWLR with seahorses and a dragonet....

1. Do you often think about upgrading your saltwater reef aquarium?

I wish I could have given 2 votes. Although I like to think about a bigger system I am very content with what I have. These thought are not contradictory. If I never upsize to a bigger system I would be ok with that, I love what I have now. That does not mean, if the time and opportunity came, I would not upsize.

2. What does your next upgrade look like in a few words? What's different? What's better?

If I ever upsize (Not upgrade, bigger does not necessarily mean better) I would want more room to add corals and fish, but more importantly more room in the sump and maybe a closet to get the equipment I would like that I dont have now, and of course more room to work on the equipment comfortably and easily.

The most important thing to remember, whether or not you upsize or downsize, is ENJOY WHAT YOU HAVE! Maybe it is fun to dream but don't let the dream of future possibilities rob you of the enjoyment of what you have now.

Most of the time if anything I am thinking about how to improve the one I already have, but I do often think about the next one. It's going to be a predator tank I think, things like an Eel, trigger, puffer, and so on

Not really upgrading, just changing sizes.
55 standard with hob overflow changing to a 50 cube with fijicube overflow and fijicube sump! Just waiting until I have the time to tackle it.

I’m going through this right now. My current 70 gallon is doing good. Everything is set. All equipment is good and it’s been easy to maintain. But this is a 36 inch wide tank. I always had 48 inch tank and I miss the larger panel and more swim room for the fish. I recently moved and have a perfect wall for a 60 inch tank. So the question is do I start a new build. Or remain content with my current mixed reef tank which i enjoy. with an upgrade come significant equipment upgrades new sump new skimmer new light. This is what hold me back but I am always thinking of this upgrade ... Decisions decisions.

I really really really want a new display tank. I do NOT want a new display tank in this house. While I've only lived here since 2016 my display tank I've actually had since 2006. So while I dream of the tank I'm not really planning on it any time soon. It will be at least a few years from now.

That being said I keep adding more and more tanks because I'm not in a position to start doing major modifications to my house to accommodate a large tank. My display is "only" 112 gallons, but all of a sudden I realized I have probably 400 gallons of saltwater in my house...

I am content with the current tank. A 180 peninsula that takes up the perfect spot in the house, and 120g frag system in the basement. I'm good.

Yes I think about this every single day all day long my dream is to have a 12 foot long 4 foot wide by like three foot tall reef aquarium I want a built into my wall kinda with my fish room right behind it with a gigantic sump.

I've wanted angle fish for a very long time, but at 120 gallons my current tank is too small. I've dreamed of putting a large FOWL tank in my guest bedroom which shares a wall with my family room. I'd like cut a viewing window in that wall so i can enjoy the tank from either the family room or the guest room. My wife thinks I'm nuts. I explained that I'd put rock work to prevent being able to see all the way from the family room into the bedroom, but she is having none of it. So, for now it will stay a dream. Sigh . . . . .

I am happy with my 210. Any bigger I couldn’t fit anywhere in my house. So unless I hit the lottery this is it. However I think everyone who is as obsessed as I am wants as big as possible.

My tank was set up as a temporary one with the idea of upgrading soon. I will be upgrading to a 5 foot tank in the spring, unless I am lucky and I get one on Thursday. (Hint Hint).

I voted other because i need multiple votes to express my position.
the first choice is out because i have other obsessions crowding my brain;
the second is true of me, because of the "but, what about..." train of thought that is constantly leaving the station.
the third is true because the tank i have is a joy and very entertaining/challenging.
the fourth is true/maybe because, HAH! ok, it is not even possibly true for me because the whole point of my set up is the capacity to upgrade that is built in.
the upgrades are in the areas of:
needed components for auto additions/purifications as the coral grow;
lighting that will allow better par for future corals;
better flow and flow control to keep more advanced livestock;
a change of sump configuration or a larger sump to allow more filtration, and finer parameter control;
possibly upgrading to higher quality glass.

these are a few of my favorite dreams

No plans to change anything to my 125.

2. What does your next upgrade look like in a few words? What's different? What's better?
I WILL eventually add a 135 to 150 gallon FOWLRish tank. Puffer, eel, etc... Maybe a shared sump.
