Are you ich management?

What type of reefers are out there?

I hate the name "Ich management". It is really immunity which is what I practice.

Ich management sounds like we keep parasites in stalls like on a farm ;Meh
My fish are familiar but not immune. I see the little bugs pop up somewhat often

I do TTM qurantine. 12 days only. Fast and no copper needed. I keep 13 tangs and can't afford to do ich management. I hate ich with a passion.

That’s what I hear a lot that people sometimes don’t have room for another tank. It’s quite expensive to start up too, salt, more heaters, decent powerheads. I can understand.
It doesn’t have to be this way at all. The guys I know who quarantine only use a 5G bucket with an air stone and a small heater. Takes up less than one foot of space and costs less than $20 for the whole setup. Can keep tangs alive for months like that if you want.

cost and space should never be a reason not to quarantine. It’s just not a legitimate excuse.

Tangs in a 5 gallon bucket ? It’s doable. But that’s a little inhumane . I guess we do what we have to do

Anyone who knows better won't answer this lol.
Lol why is that ? I just want to know who’s doing quarantine successfully and who’s not .

I was doing management until my UV broke and I had to quarantine

I don't have space or money, better spent on the main tank. I have a 15 gallon, I dont have much livestock, its cheaper and honestly less risky as theres less contamination risk for me to buy Pre-QTed fish, corals and inverts from places I trust. Do not try and get all high horse, the only space id have is in a damp, dirty basement with poor ventilation.

I think I might be ordering from those coral places who QT. 76 days for coral is ridiculous lol

Don't have space for a QT, I only buy from places that I know have good QT, its a little expensive and limiting but worth it
I buy from TSM, they are on par or cheaper than Live Aquaria and other online vendors and maybe a little more expensive than the LFS around me? But with all the death loss from the LFS in my area, TSM has been a heck of a lot cheaper and definately worth the small increase in price to get a healthy, fully quarantined, conditioned fish.

Tsm website please

Are you new to the hobby?

It’s a common parasite that kills
Sounds scary
I hope my fish don't get it. All 40 of them are in there now and seem fine.

For me, mature tank with real live rock and sand. Ich tomont stands no chance with all of the critters on the surfaces of my tank - free meals. I am under no illusion that this is eradication, but I learned long ago that this is mostly a pipe dream for nearly all and that I would never be one of the otherwise... just not intent on QTing every invert, coral, rock, etc... and something is going to slip by for nearly everybody and especially me.

I do isolate fish when I get them, make sure that they are not skittish and eating everything... then into the large tanks they go.

I would never do this since it is not responsible, but if you put an ich covered Powder Blue Tang in my tank, there would be nary a spot on any of the other fish...and if there was, it would soon be gone never to be seen again. I have no idea if the PBT would make it, but the healthy fish would be fine.

All of the people who start with sterile tanks with bare bottom, dead/dry rock, etc. are creating a perfect petri dish for fish disease. Yet another thing that the proponents of dead/dry rock tend to leave out.

I just got done with 11 weeks fallow. It's nice to know ich and velvet are no longer an option.

I just deal with it. I feed vitamins to my fish. When I see a spot or two I feed garlic. I do not sweat it. The copper is real poison to fish, weakens them. I work on nutrition and their own immune systems. I get it here and there. Nothing not manageable. I do water changes as I see it and vacuum the floor, but I do not lose sleep over it.

Never heard of critters eating ich. No such thing.
