Article: Are LEDs a suitable primary light source? + a thread.

I have run a variety of lights over the years and all seem to do just fine. I stay away from SPS "sticks", but have zoas, hammers, Duncan's, montiporas, Favias and mushrooms. Over the last two years, I have used an inexpensive, Chinese, black box, no-name eBay dimmable setup and nothing seems to have suffered. Everything multiplies and does well. That's just my experience...I'm not trying to say anything is better than anything else and I could care less what other people choose to use.

I dive in New York harbor all the time and there are Bright tractor tires of all colors the size of clams. It is also amazing. :D
Sorry, OK back to lighting. :)

I think diving in that water will make you brightly colored even without actinics :p

@A. grandis
I'm assuming you ran out of people to argue with in another reef site and decided to bring a years old argument here!? Boooooo! Troll!!!! Booooooo!!!!!!!
Haha! You think so? Perhaps!! LOL!!
I've got lots of posts here! Made new friends! At least we've got people here that thinks about the subject and we also had a nice article to back me up from this site!
Besides, people here are more knowledgeable than what we've got on the other forum nowadays. They are more respectful too!
This site is fair and allows links from other sites/forums!!!!! That is a very important reason why I left that site! I believe the reef community is supposed to be a group of friends learning with each other. Even when they don't agree. That's how we all grow!! I do have lots of old friends there and I hope they could come here instead...
I wasn't prohibited to post there and therefore I'll do when I feel like.:D

I agree with your post. I also don't post on that site any more for the same reasons. You can't link to anything there because, I assume they are afraid you may find a site like this one.
Many of my posts don't make me a lot of friends but I post what I feel is interesting, worthy, controversial, or just fun. :)

"Article" is being generous. It seemed more like one guy's experience with his Radions rather than a whole analysis of LEDs in general. You've jumped from one dude's very limited experience to making a very broad-based generalization about the whole technology.

The article you keep pointing to is no more valid to me than a simple post by any member of this forum that tells about their experience with LEDs. There is nothing scientific about it. It's anecdotal and even then, it's very limited.

I think we make friends anyway. My posts are also very hot and provoke some arguments, but we are still looking for the same thing here.
You might have more friends than you think.;)

Well, all the posts and "articles" mentioned in this and the other thread were anecdotal with no scientific data. That is true for both sides! Even when we talk about Dr. Sanjay we see no scientific data in most of his statements. The other thread had some videos talking about the subject by people that knows what they're doing and actually depend on the subject of lighting their tanks to make money and pay their bills, not only a consumer, like us.
Observations some times takes guts to publish!
Another thing... that "dude" could put most of what we see about LEDs in words, very well.

And we agree that we're all throwing out anecdotal evidence, but you're the only one trying to prove some profound point using it. You're acting as if you're referencing a scientific journal.

It's obviously fun for you......keep running with it.

It's fun for all of us. Non scientific. Thanks.
