Scott what the secret?

Just normal reefkeeping. No special sauce or anything like that. Main photoperiod (8 of 10 tubes) is 8 hours. Peak lighting (all 10 on) for 6 hours. Lots of flow, 13,900 gph potential which calculates to just about 70 x turnover per hour via 2 x MP40 and a MP60 (when all 3 hit maximum at the same time). Calcium reactor for alk and calcium, dose mag when needed. 15% water change every 2 weeks.

As always Scott, your tank is by far my favorite SPS tank. Sorry to hear about the RTN/STN issues. Let us know how it goes. I'm sure you can grow those frags into colonies in a hurry though.

I have not read of anyone running a long term test on an LED system.
Rumor has it they last 5 years but is that 5 useful years or do the bulbs begin to degrade sooner?


I am not a big one for effects.
What I want is reliable light that lasts.
It will take at least three years to recoup the investment in terms of bulb replacement and energy savings.

Remember the object here is LED and SPS growth. We’re not here to debate the fact that LED's are new in the marine world. So if you have some good photos please post them. If you’re wanting to debate the longevity of LED's maybe you could start another thread. Just want to keep it positive!

Gabriel, How long did it take for your corals to adjust to the light? Took mine around 8 weeks. I can only run the whites for 7 hrs. a day or they get burned.

Took about 8 weeks for my corals to adjust to the light. The par on leds is insane and it's real easy to burn the corals. I run the blues for 12hrs. a day and the whites for 7 max. anything over that and they get burned.

My sps almost instantly. I saw improvements in sps literally within 2 days. LPS not so much. I had to shade those even though they are on the bottom of my 75. They seem to handle it better now. My friend fried a large acan colony with these lights. The sps grow even in the spots that don't look like they are getting much light.

Same here, 8 weeks, and I'm still adjusting. My acrow love the light but a few others are not so happy high in the tank. I moved them down a bit and they love it.
