1. Clean your filter socks in the washer with 2 tide packs and skip the rinse cycle. Hang them to dry and ready to go.
2. Don‘t worry about the drip from the bulkhead. Grab a jar of plumbers putty and pack as much as you can around the bulkhead. If the leak continues put as much caulk as you can on it
3. There is no reason to spend $30 for a bag of sand. Walk outside, you have sand for free you can use right there. Same for rocks.
4. Don’t buy those expensive lighting units. Go to a big box store and pick up a $12 clamp on utility lamp and some led light bulbs to clip on the tank. That should grow anything
5. Don’t waste time or money building or buying a stand. A little research to find out what time the local grocery store places the empty milk crates out back for pick up and a large pick up truck is all you need to collect enough crates to stack together a stand big enough for a 300 gallon.
6. Dosing supplements does not just need to be individual parts. Example..Calcium and magnesium bought individualy can be expensive. If you can measure your consumption for each than Randy has a calculator to detedmine theor combined amount of usage and then turn that into a formula for dosing milk. Dosing milk not only gives the coral calcium and mag build helps builds the fish strong teeth and bones
7. Once you start growing coraline the glass may get hard to keep clean. Buy a glass scraper. It should scrape the deposits right off the glass. If that does not work, or you Don’t have one, or to lazy to order one than 80 grit sand paper can be used to scrub the deposit off from the inside of the glass.

When I read number 5 I died laughing, my QT is sitting on a milk crate at the moment to keep my dogs from taking a sip.

I dip my corals always before putting them in my DT. Lifeprotip: save time and money by clean them off in the shower while you wash up.

I don't try to bad mouth the industry but when you are at a lfs and they say "you should be ok". You're probably not ok.

As a beginer, you should start with Easy to Keep livestock in your tank to get expereience for the future.

Start off with the following:

- A few invasive Palys, or Xenia (your choice).
- A clump of Hair Algae
- Some Bubble Algae
- A Few Aptasia
- A un-cured live rock ..... covered in Cyano
- And some bristle worms....the red ones.

Common misconception is the need to dip corals when you purchase or trade. Just put them in the tank. Any hitchhikers will help build the ecosystem and help mature the tank exponentially faster.

Of course you can keep a tang in a 10 gallon! It’s cozy!

I’m sorry but this is just wrong. A tang should be in 3 gallon max. 10 gallons is just way too much water for a tang. It might get lost.

It is easy to increase the salinity of your tank, just add salt. Just add it at the high flow area of the tank, then you don't have to mix it and scare the fish.

The general rule is 1-inch of fish per gallon. That 5 inch Lion fish and five 1-inch damsels will need at least 10 gals. Be conservative and double the volume and they will do great in a 20 gal tank. That will be a beautiful tank. An interesting, unusual fish and 5 very colorful fish with a lot of movement and color.
