Be taken seriously!! Post those tanks!!

It was my (maybe mistakenly) interpretation that the op was addressing the common mixed reef tank that most hobbyist have. There is no intent on my part to judge the skills of those individuals that keep a different style of reef or bio-type. :-). I completely agree that a wealth of knowledge comes from those individual keeping systems that push the boundaries, and think out of the box..

I know I need a thread on my tank. [emoji3]
I get so busy with club business and LIFE I have been working 7 days a week and add in 12 days every other day. It comes down to time. When I am home I have to do testing and water changes and feed fish. Doing a tank thread is not high on my list. My new tank is starting to come around now as I slowly ramp it up. I am still learning about what this tank needs. Which does not make a great picture tank thread. There are only a few tank threads that I have found useful really

Would be my prototype for a tank build thread. Hope to get one going soon it is on my list. [emoji3]

I'm not even sure if @alprazo has an account here on R2R. But he's on another forum I visit, and I believe he has a tank build thread over there (sharks/rays). Not impressive from what I remember, but without his knowledge the usefulness of Chloroquine phosphate for treating external parasites would have been lost to ignorance.

Maybe he does have a build thread, I am going to look for it. Different people are impressed by diffrent setups. He does have a few nice sharks. A while back he was saying that BBC wanted to use one of his videos of his Wobbegong for a documentary. I never see him post here. He is on RC and Shark Ray Central. He did help me with force feeding a catshark pup.

Proving ones position in the hobby is like how roosters and hens scratch in the dirt to make a mark while still being in a cage imo

fun to make deep cutting ruts as a mark, I dig spur in hard

heh

I also understand the point of your thread. While actively being a part of a few challenging / train wrecks threads all in good nerd fun I say things similar at times: asking for threads to show a proof. I only want to see threads that they built doing work in others tanks not even their own tank

Attribution errors are human and even the seasoned posters get things wrong after such proof, nothing will prevent that variable.

So, I broke my tank down because I am moving, only have a frag tank running.

Does this mean I shouldn't help / support a fellow reefer on a subject, that I maybe a tad knowledgeable regarding?

I mean I personally would never jump in and comment on a certain pest or chemistry or even how to run a calcium reactor / issues I've never dealt with, but a solution to something I've experienced in a similar situation you're saying I should remain quiet because I currently don't have a big bad display build thread?

Hmmmmmmm......

This thread doesn't take into account nutty people like me. :p I actually want to sell my DT to setup more QTs so I can buy more fish with diseases to experiment on: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/humblefishs-150-gal-mixed-reef.189950/. You don't hear that everyday! :D

Maybe I'll start a build thread with all my QTs once I get it all going the way I want. :)

This just sounds very weird to me...

So you don't really want to keep a reef tank but really just want to experiment on them? I'm pretty sure your not a vet or doctor as I don't think a professional would phrase it this way.

Seriously...substitute "puppies" for "fish" and read it again...

I don't believe the OP is saying that yu must be Bill Wann to give advice on this forum. Only that it would be helpful if you were to post pics of some of the things you have under taken, past or present. If you are a pest expert then showing before and after pics, a disease expert, the same or studies you've done, coral expert? Lets see some corals....etc...lol.

I think everyone on this thread has valid points. What I got out of the op and agree with is there are people who have down right ugly algae covered tanks with some mushrooms and zoas giving advice on how to keep a uln sps tank. That said I also know people who have had beautiful tanks and either have tank crashes, moved, were deployed, or any number of other things and now look like a beginner so you really never know. Don't judge a reef tank by its cover....but if it has a beautiful cover it's a good place to start haha.

Ahhh @robert me old friend. I never said I didn't want to keep a reef tank. Never claimed to be a vet or doctor. Just a hobbyist who wants to focus on studying fish diseases and experiment with different treatments for right now.

Happens everyday in labs across the country with healthy animals (just saying) @Humblefish was talking about sick fish however when he used the word "experiment" so I think it would be commendable if he did this for puppies as well:)

Love this cause the after pic is dead pests!

Sorry guys i dont have a build thread and there is no such thing as an expert. I am not in anyway trying to sound cocky im still young and is just the way i do things .I dont have alot if threads because with certain things i dont need advice and i learn from my mistakes , there is soo many reasons to why your tank can crash and theres not one person in this world that can scientifically explain to what goes on, i come to r2r to see what goes on and to learn when i get the chance on my cellphone everyday. Yes i have pictures and everything from my last 2 tanks and will post a thread,i love the fact that i can lookback on it instead of having to sift threw old phones chips and cameras to see were i am now but i am not ready and will do when the time comes. Op i kno im one of the people your talkin about and i dont blame you, whoever comes on here to prove their "an expert" is stupid. For the last 15 years and 11 into full blown reefs all ive tooken was advice and thats it. Regardless if someone has a build thread or not its food for thought thats it for me. I dont want to give anyone a bad impression but im just a fellow reefer like everyone else
