Happens everyday in labs across the country with healthy animals (just saying) @Humblefish was talking about sick fish however when he used the word "experiment" so I think it would be commendable if he did this for puppies as well

Just to be clear... I never "experiment" on healthy fish. I go down to Petco, find diseased fish (not difficult), and "experiment" on fish that IMO are doomed to die anyway. I've got about a 50/50 success rate. Some fish are just too far gone.

I guess I see treatment and experimentation as two different things...I've participated in IRB's designing study protocols...its actually quite challenging to design a study so that you actually come away learning something...if you don't learn anything, then your just some guy soaking fish in poison to see what happens...maybe you saved some...maybe you killed more...who knows.

Oh boy this is starting to get under my skin. Every look at my profile pic looks pretty crappy. I have a build thread on that tank. To bad it no longer has water in it as I quickly got a bigger tank. My new tank does not have a build thread as my first one I realized I am pretty much talking to myself and was to time consuming to keep up with. Does that make me a bad ReefKeeper? I guess it depends on who I ask. My point is ok someone has a tank full of rocks and you dont like a tank full of rocks so you are not going to take his advise on how to position power heads in your tank. Hmmmm a tank full of rocks with no dead spots this guy is a pro at it but you blew him off and took advise from a guy that had to small islands in his tank but some pretty coral. Only to realize later that it is easy to get flow throughout a tank with 2 small islands as opposed to a tank slap full of rock.

I dont keep build threads as I dont go to the LFS every week and blow 250-500 bucks to have something to show so my threads get stagnant then if I want to update it now I have to find it. The hell with that I got better things to do. I come here as it is a friendly environment (but I see that slipping away lately) that I can see what others are doing or needing and I can either learn something r maybe lend a hand. I dont really get involved in save my tank threads because none of us know how to save his tank. We are not there looking at it. Sometimes someone gets lucky but yeah its more luck than skill.

@Humbblefish I have seen your posts and I respect you to the level of a DR on marine fish. So easy on the word experiment instead as the medical field like to use "PRACTICE" is a more appropriate term lol

I wanted to add that a friendly environment IMO isn't best rated on passionate posters who may disagree entirely too vehemently on procedure but in the handed ness of the mods and ban sticks

Reef2Reef is the nicest forum directly tied with nano-reef.com of all reef forums on that basis, and the passion posters are equal on all forums. R2R has personnel mgmnt down pat-while some disagreements are click-past eyesores on any forum, some are post gold too, and in the tension some cutting edge reefing is being done. I find the whole freedom to shape a position and work out claims in public the nicest part of posting here

Now we're talking ya'll. The varied opinions is 1 of the reasons I love this site. There's been times when I ask a question and someone shoots me in a direction I hadn't even thought about. Then there's those other pieces of information you discover that are life changing and persuade you just enough to go a different road, to try something just a bit different. A lot of people thought I was crazy at first for having an eel with the fish that I do, but give me the time or take a look at 1 of my videos, @reefwiser has seen in person.

These forums also got me involved with the local group here

Hold the phone! I'm NOT picking out any one spicific person from the crowd.. I posted this late last night.. A little frustrated after I seen someone post on Facebook that he wanted to get into "saltwater fish keeping" within minutes the "experts" had thrown everything but the kitchen at him.. Things like "if you get anything less then a 55g you'll fail" and "do drugs, they're cheaper" and his response was I don't know what a 55g is? He finally gave up and signed off with "I'm done, cheers".
So I clicked on his profile pic.

It was just a kid wanting some information about the hobby. I told him to "join R2R, and look into a product called a biocube as it might be more what you're looking for" hopefully he came back to get the message..

But possibly a future hobbiest gone because of all the experts.. And it disappointed me a little. Nobody bothered to ask him what he was looking for. The problem is a Facebook problem, which with the exception of my local club I've tried to stay away from the rest.. But every once in awhile I get sucked into one. But as I was thinking about it I remembered a discussion here that ended up getting pretty heated.. It was your typical help I have ich and after going back and forth it was the normal what is the case 90% of the time. A fairly new setup with a tang. Then a guy (I've seen him do this several times here ) pops in right in the middle of the discussion and brags about his awesome tank he's had forever and if you don't run UV sterilizar than your always gonna lose your fish to ich and bla bla bla. But don't think I'm picking on you

Also yes it's not a guaranteed way to determine if someone knows thier stuff.. But you look at @melev tank and it's pretty obvious he knows what he's doing. And I know there's a lot of you that know your stuff that don't for whatever reason have a tank thread.. That was half the point of this post! We as a community wants to see them!

And sorry mods for posting in the wrong place. And thanks for moving it.

Since my first day in this forum I read a lot of forum discussions. From each discussion I learnt something. I think maximum number of people here try to help each other by sharing their experiences. Its very hard today to find people who share their practical knowledges which they earned through their long hard work. May be lot of us sometime loose their urge to maintain a nice thread but that does not mean we loose our knowledges too.

I dont blame you but i see stufflike this all the time with kids posting threads with "new to the hobby need advice" and get bashed on by tons and tons of stuff is very overwhelming , at a certain age these kids take the advice giving instead of sticking with their gut and unfortuntly getting themselves into trouble,its really really a shame what goes on with facebook/otheforums and you rarely see this on r2r. Thats really a shame and cant stand people like that yanno the poor kid dont kno any better

You also got to take in situations like mine. I have been running reef tanks four four years at the peak my tank looked like this

Due to lack of diligence my tank crashed and I lost almost everything now my tank looks like this

So, personally I think you should judge experience buy the amount of time the person has been in the hobby and the animals that they have kept, things that they have run, and experiences they have had.
