best way to kill single aiptasia?

aiptasia x has worked well for me however if its not applied well you may need to use it two or three times. It really depends on if the aiptasia has a burrow or not. Usually one treatment works.

We have large aptasia in our overflow, drilled tank, filled with large aptasia. I've never messed with them since were gonna move soon and I'm gonna wipe them out completely. Since I can see them easily I wanted to see what Kalkwasser really did to them. I've used it before and they come back after 3 weeks. Loaded one large aptasia full of kalk paste and watched it swallow the slurry and slowly shrink into a little ball over the course of 30 minutes. Never completely disintegrated and after 2 weeks it now has small tentacles reaching out. It's only about the size of a pinkie nail compared to the massive pest it used to be but it did not die. Very intersting to watch though as that single aptasia took 1ml full of kalk paste and lived.

This is a great thread to track what partial actions against aiptasia do...outcomes vary. even using fish as controllers doesn't always remove all the pedal tissue from the rocks, they're just mowing in many cases.
We have a way to cure any nano of aiptasia when the infestation is early, if they'll agree to run the method which is to simply use a metal tool to lift up under the anemone and simply dig out the anchor spot taking the substrate chip it was anchored to away
you aren't removing the anem, or partially killing it, you are using a flathead or a rigid knife to literally break off the spot its anchored to. if its on glass or plastic, then we drain the water line down and razor them off with some peroxide cleaning of the area for finality/nonporous surfaces.
this way works, always, we've already cured nanos of aips including mine but you'd be surprised how hard it is to convince people of that. They must lose a tank to them before they'll get serious about universal controls.
the only time you inject, or buy some juice, or add some animals hoping they'll work in the battle against aiptasia, is when the cure has been put off so long they've built up too much to rasp off
when the invasion is new, this is a universal control method and in nano reefs it always works because we can part them out so easily to have access to all surfaces. for sure all options have successful kill threads, that's why no one method prevailed but if you ever catch aiptasia at 1-3 heads, do this way its shortcut.

I am now a huge believer in berghia they took care of the ones in my 20g super quick. I'm sure it's a much longer process in a large system or one with fish, but they do work.

boil some water in the microwave then use a turkey baster to suck up the water.squirt directly on the nem.this works better than a syringe sense the opening of the baster is wider.this allows a wider stream of hot water to make contact with the whole nems base insuring all parts of it are burned .get a baster at the dollar store

In concept I would agree but reaching the base of these things is next to impossible if anchored deep in the nooks and crannies of the live rock. I am sure it is possible but sounds easier said than done.

I promise this is only reflecting on past cures which account for that, not a theory on how a tank might be cured. Even crevices can be handled
Today's hardened ceramic rocks may be different...or the concrete style ones but classic lr not affected. The sole variable isn't the location, it's the hesitancy of the keeper opting into other less work modes while they multiply that makes the challenge

kill it with anything but dont miss. 60 minutes later fill the hole with expoxy. This will kill if 100% but if their are more in the tank you can repeat the process. I use aiptasia X and use expoxy and they never grow over the epoxy

I just went to war with 20ML of aiptasix X on my reef. I really want to get something that can control them so they slowly become extinct. I was planning on ordering a copperband butterfly but decided against it since I have 3 Yellow tangs. I want to add 10 peppermint shrimp but my melanrus wrasse may eat them. Berghia is also a concern because of price and possibly being eaten by my wrasse. Wrasse is well feed but not sure its preference for shrimps .
