He’s beautiful! You’ll be even more impressed as he ages and you get to see him go through 10-20 colour patterns in just one day! You should also get him a barnacle, mine loves his barnacle and refuses to allow any other fish in it with him.

Yours is gorgeous! I would love to get a barnacle, actually going back to the fish store today to get some RO water and food so I’ll see if they have any barnacles. I’m so happy I found this guy, he’s so entertaining to watch.

I did end up with a Midas blenny I aptly named “Benny.” He likes to peak out of a hole in his favorite rock and has a voracious appetite. Definitely one of my favorite fish.

Out of curiosity have you found any barnacles?
If so has the blenny taken host to them yet?

Here’s my barnacle blenny I’ve had for two months! I actually got him specifically because I had barnacles that I thought he would like, but so far he has shown zero interest in them. He has found small holes in my rocks to peer out of instead. He’s very small, and the openings of the barnacles I have are fairly large, so I’m wondering if he just prefers a hideout that fits his size better? Do y’all have any ideas?

I received my Mexican barnacle blennies, three of them, from Dr. Reefs Quarantined Fish yesterday. They all settled in in a hurry and were eating amphipods and copepods off the rocks within hours. They are very good hiders. So far they prefer the holes in the rock to the barnancles.

I ordered in 5 lawnmowers for the store in hopes i would get a clear male and female, and I did, and the male is gorgeous but I believe the one in our coral tank is also male, but its been impossible to tell because he’s so fast and i didnt sex him before putting him in. But his fins are usually fairly orange on the edges and I swear one of his anal rays is longer than the rest, but not as prominently as the other male we have. Then the females are very clear, straight edged anal fins all the same length.

Would the male with more prominent coloring/finnage be the better candidate for pairing? Or should I leave the one I have alone and just try and acclimate (in an acclimation box) a female, see the reactions?

What would be your next steps here?

its a 125gal frag/display tank

Hmm i think it is about time for more Blennies!! So cute, so weird, and very interesting community fish.

How about a Flametail Blenny, Ecsenius flavipes. (dont mind the algae issues, it has been a heck of a fight to get rid of) The black and yellow of these fish is striking but can be hard to see under the blues.

More Blennies!

The ORA Striped Blenny (Meiacanthus grammistes) is an interesting fish. I initially felt they are kinda boring when seen at the LFS so i never considered them. Once i had a bigger tank i liked the idea of getting a new column swimmer with personality. Getting two made things more interesting. They swim all day, patrol the rock for pods, and you find them in various rock crevice's at lights out. Not to shabby for a 'boring' blenny :thinking-face:.

Do you have any SPS with your guys?
I’d love a kamoharai but I have an SPS dominated tank unfortunately.

And another photo of my blenny :)
A lot has changed since the last photo I showed, the most obvious thing is, well the green!
He still goes through 10-20 colour changes in a day depending on where he is in the tank. If he’s on the sand, he gains all of his stripes and if he’s on the top of the rocks, he goes browner with more obvious golden streaks.

Hmm, I have Pocillopora, Lepto, Pavona, and Psammocora. They could care less and have left these alone. The only time i found them stalking around the coral is when they are hunting for pods on the rock. But as always you never know sometimes.

Those kamoharai blennies are very cool  and i love that they are captive bred. I would give them a try.
