Blenny Lovers Thread

Hmm, I have Pocillopora, Lepto, Pavona, and Psammocora. They could care less and have left these alone. The only time i found them stalking around the coral is when they are hunting for pods on the rock. But as always you never know sometimes.

Those kamoharai blennies are very cool  and i love that they are captive bred. I would give them a try.
I’ve also been contemplating an Escenius bimaculatus (Two Spot Blenny). But I remain cautious after my Lineatus going rogue for fluffy Millepora (My favourite mille’s to collect).

I had a starry blenny for about 3 years, it became quite big. I returned it to the LFS because I wanted to try my hand at macro algae. It ate all of it in a few days, though I never caught it doing it. It was the only fish in the tank as my firefish had died, so I am sure he was guilty.

Got any updates?
I hate to say it, but a few weeks back the blenny passed away. He stopped eating and began rapidly declining. I tested everything to make sure nothing was weird or off- but everything was fine. I didn’t add any other livestock whilst he was alive and I didn’t make any drastic changes. He just stopped eating and no matter what I tried, (dried algae, frozen, etc;) he took no interest. I miss the little bugger, and I’m hesitant to have an algae blenny again. :(

I'm considering a midas blenny in my new tank that will join the tailspot blenny. Any problems there? Also will be joined by exquisite firefish, two occelaris clowns and probrabaly co-introduced with a shrimp goby and maybe some cardinals. (40L AIO)

Didn’t mean to put a winky emoji, lord. Phones are annoying.

That’s a shame, my linear has recently vanished and hasn’t been out for a few weeks now.
I do recommend trying another as when they’re established they’re great :)

Hey all,

i have a Midas blenny who’s been in my tank for about three months. It eats great, swims a lot and gets into trouble. A month ago or so the blenny got into with my clowns and the clown nipped a piece of the blennys tail off. We also have an aggressive black cap basslet and they sometimes clash because they live close together. Out of no where, the blenny started to look like it’s skin was peeling off. Literally no behavior or breathing change but it looks like this.

Hi @theasherrr im bummed to hear about your Blenny as it looks like an interesting little specimen. I am not going to give my opinion on what you should do but I will provide a learning experience I had and sadly will have to mention in my Build Thread soon as I am almost up to this event in my timeline.

I had a Starry Blenny that was chased, bit, or rammed by my Tang almost every time it was out in the open. There were lulls in this behavior, but the tang would still almost always chase it back to its hole. I had the Blenny for about five months when I noticed it stopped coming out, its belly started to look malnourished, and the next week found it dead in the tank.

I felt from time to time that if things get a little worse I will rehome the aggressor or the blenny (if I could get it out). By the time I noticed how malnourished it was, it was sadly too late. This was a hard lesson as I never really had to deal with a bully, and it resulted in me loosing one of my ‘most wanted’ fish.

Sorry Doug, you were a hard one to lose.

It took a while but i was finally able to get some decent shots of my not-so-Black Sailfin Blenny (Atrosalarias fuscus). Gizmo has been an excellent community fish and does not take any crap from the tangs!

That belly!

I love bicolor blennies. Are there any others similar in behavior to them?

Ie crevice or hole dwelling but not shy.
The Molly Miller blenny we had was exactly like the Bicolors, crevice dwelling but will happily perch on top of rocks and coral as well as column dwelling during feeding time.

What’s the prettiest blenny for a blue light tank that also eats algae like a lawnmower?
For me I love the look of a Starry Blenny under the blues. The black scales with white, iridescent spots are really something to behold in person. And they even color change on occasion for dramatic effect!
