Booger Sized Frags: What are your thoughts?

I got cheated on a few frags, they were close up pictures, when they arrived some of the zoas were just babys barely old enough to open... and another chalice came half dead which wasnt shown in the WYSISYG picture... Its hit or miss.

Did you call them to show them what you got was not what you ordered ... especially on the Chalice ... that's what I would do FWIW

Seymore noted that the grower says "700 per head!! The potential value this holds will be worth it some day! Yes I will invest!"

I hope that isn't what the buyers of Purple Hornets, as well as a multitude of other grossly overpriced corals said....If so, then the growers got it in the end....

I didnt pay much for the frags, they both came from the same vendor, I just wont be doing any shopping online from him, I'v found that I'd rather go to my LFS, they're pretty good at getting in high end peices and such so I can view them in person before purchasing, Shipping is jsut too risky IMO.

Yup i know albert thats what i fear most that no one is saying anything to stop it at all. Its pretty scary to think that it very well could pass and there goes this wonderful hobby. Which really sucks because young kids and reef newbies learn so much about it and our oceans at the same time. I remember back in the day most people that had reef aquariums were either really rich or got their systems off some one that was getting out of the hobby. Now days if you look its pretty mainstream like freshwater fish was. It would be seriously depressing if they banned everything coming in etc. When it comes to wild caught corals and fish i think there should be a limitation put on those due to the fact of endangered species and the reefs dying out. At the same time by all means get a sample of every coral and try to get them captive grown so we won't deplete the reefs fully. We already do enough damage to it already from our daily lives. Sorry to get off topic of the original post but this is a very real issue that could take place real soon.

I don't know who is going to take action to oppose it but PIJAC may be one (Pet Industry Joint Action Committee) but the usually are more into cats, dogs, birds, farm animals and so on and not so much into our Hobby so hopefully Importers and Wholesalers and Stores will start getting hold of PIJAC so they start talking on our behalf as well. And yes damage done to reefs is real but is of course yet another totally different matter but a real one indeed

This is not the first time a bill like that has come up but this one could be voted in without anyone trying to stop the vote on it as I have not seen any Trade Organizations posting opposition to it or setting up a site where anyone can post their opinion and try to stop it from being passed, and yes if this one passes it will be a massive problem for the Hobby especially price wise but also because apparently it would include all the corals and fish that are on that Black List from being traded and sold even if they are already in this country. Basically you would not be able to trade or sell a frag and who knows what it would do to Store inventories ... this is all so unclear that one wonders why no serious opposition has started yet ... Let's hope it does NOT pass ...

The bill does state at least that these places will be considered within "native" boundaries ;)
"(13) STATE- The term ‘State’ means--

(A) each of the several States of the United States;

(B) the District of Columbia;

(C) the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico;

(D) Guam;

(E) American Samoa;

(F) the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands;

(G) the Federated States of Micronesia;

(H) the Republic of the Marshall Islands;

(I) the Republic of Palau; and

(J) the United States Virgin Islands.

(14) UNITED STATES- The term ‘United States’ means--

(A) the States; and

(B) any land and water, including the territorial sea and the Exclusive Economic Zone, within the jurisdiction or sovereignty of the Federal Government."

The chance that it gets thru to Obama is less than 5% so I wouldn't be to worried yet ;)

Let's hope so indeed

I myself prefer large frags but if it's something I really want, and it's limited, I will take what I can get! :)
