Brad's ADA 60f Mangrove Tunnel

Neat project!
When it starting to grow will the roots penetrate the tank and cause breakage?

Somehow my post got combined into your post. Don't mind me, relative R2R newbie. :)

The mangrove roots will eventually grow up through the sand. The mangroves will be trimmed frequently to create a dense canopy over the tank.

They will grow up and above the water before breaking the glass. In my other tank I've had mangroves in an 8" cube for 2 years now and no root issues.

This is great. I'm following along. Been looking for your build threads since I saw a picture of your daylight macro tank. It was basically exactly what I've been thinking about doing for awhile.

Pretty cool idea. Definitely pulls in the naturescaping done on planted tanks.

How will you convert to saltwater? Can the mangroves handle a quick change or do you have to do it gradually?

Thanks. It will be a very gradual conversion to saltwater through multiple water changes over a few month period.

This is very cool. Nice and clean. I'm interested to watch it develop.

Thank you!

Very cool,
I know your tank is built now but have you thought of extending the intake of the AQ to the opposite corner of the tank to pull water from the kitty corner side and back to the AQ20 where it comes out.

I hear the new seachem HOB filters rock, they do look nice I would get those if I didn't just buy AQ's.

Also, you can use this stuff, http://plasticworld.ca/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=129 or you'll see it advertised as "Aquaweld" or something to make a splash way for your aq20.

You heat it up in boiling water, use a rolling pin to flatten it, and then you can stick it to the aq20 to lessen the spillway slope, and / or divert the outflow.

Looking great Brad! How soon will you be converting it to saltwater? Also what are you stocking plans?
