Brand New 8 gallon bio cube

I am brand new to saltwater. My son got an 8 gallon bio cube. I know this is too small, but I promised I'd try. I have 1 piece of dead coral for decor and that's it. We hope to have 2 tiny fish and maybe 2 shrimp. We also like hermit crabs. What equipment, substrate would you guys suggest? I'd like to use easy (forgiving) live macro algae to help balance this tank. Please be kind with responses. I have been called names elsewhere and was referred here to learn.
Wow, and I Remember this original post !!

I hope you have better luck than myself with flight delay. I had a shipment from San Diego sent Wednesday night via UPS and it was to arrive BY 10:30a Thursday and first showed up Friday at 6:30p.
UPS could have been honest and admitted mistakes but indicated the aircraft had mechanical issues. My shipper actually went to the airport to try and recover box and it was admitted that the box and 44 others were missed and never loaded on transfer flight.
The update indicated , it would come Friday morning at 10:30a and although marked live fish all over all the box, they came 6:25p to be exact in the evening Friday !!
Bummer. Did anything make it?

Your luck sounds like mine! Sorry!

Is it just me or is the hairy looking fish, in this banner a bit creepy?

I was able to pick up a small frag of the torches I was drooling over this weekend! The gold stems look much more gold in person. Still have not figured out Pro Mode fully. This is my new favorite coral! (In my tank, that is)

I heard gold and torch in the same sentence. My favorite by far.
