Brand New 8 gallon bio cube

Got a new leopard wrasse today. Beautiful little bipartitus female. My melanarus followed her to the sand where she buried. Not really attacking her, but definitely wasn't a friendly "hi how are ya?" He will most likely be rehomed.

Beautiful. Are they jumpers.

It should have plenty of pods to eat if it doesn't accept frozen right away. I was going to harvest some more chaeto, but I think I'll just leave it for now. It took my negrosensis female 3 months to take frozen, and she had plenty to eat in that time.

I just worry about aggression from the melanarus before I can rehome him. Hopefully the black leopard buddies up with her. The leopard and the black leopard are already friends, and don't take crap from him.

LFS release them eating and I got good amount of pods.
I had to remove my Melanurus for aggression and miss him

Beautiful. Are they jumpers.
Leopards, usually no. Their flight response is to bury in the sand... but any fish can jump in the right(wrong) situation. They aren't as bad as fairies or flashers tho. Those guys live to carpet surf.

I had quite the day..
went to get my haircut around noon. There was a 30 min wait, so I went back outside to sit because it was a nice day out. I noticed an undercover cop parked behind my car looking like he was running the plates. I went over to see what was going on. He asked if it was my car, yes. He said I’m towing your car your registration is expired.
-I mentioned to some of you I was having car issues early this month that I have had for a long time that I finally was able to get fixed that were preventing me from passing an emissions test. I got that fixed a few weeks ago and was told to drive the car 50 miles a day a few times, then bring it back to get smog tested. I usually don’t drive that car I usually take the SUV since it’s better on gas. So I haven’t even drove the first 50 miles yet, my haircut adventure was an attempt at that, honestly.
So the registration wasn’t actually expired, it was paid for I just needed to get the smog test done. He tows the car, tells me do this do that, go to the dmv, go to the police dept, then try to make it to the impound lot before 5 when they close or you will get charged for multiple days at impound.
I start walking home feeling deflated, still no haircut and now no car. I remembered uber exists about 1/2 way home so I installed that and got one. Then elizabeth had to get off work early. Drove me to the dmv. Waited for ever. Pay some silly $80 fee there, go 20 miles away to the police dept pay some $160 fee I still have no idea what for, then got to the impound lot at 4:50 and had to pay fricken $380!!! They had my car less than 5 hours !!! Then tomorrow I have to get it smogged for another god knows how much, then rush order stickers for my plates which is an extra fee. Just feeling overwhelmed.
I really wish that Sargent would of just let me take it to get smog tested, that really wasn’t cool, I was so polite and respecting as well, I don’t understand :(

Land of the free... I'm glad SC doesn't have any vehicle inspections.

I have to end my part of the discussion here. Very strong opinions of lots of things that a lot of people may not agree with.

anyone know anything about the rhomboid wrasses? love those guys

Fairy wrasse, usually pretty peaceful towards other wrasse. Gets about 3-3.5". Males are VERY colorful and a unique color pattern also. Most fairies are red, orange, pink or some combination of the three.

Sorry you had to go through all that man, I'll have to bite my tongue on this as well as I have some rather not nice things to say about stuff like that. And not about you. I hope it all works out for you and eventually you get your hair cut :)

Wrasse cannot tolerate ionic copper. Chelated is the only option... most ate highly resistant to ich and velvet tho. Thick slime coat prevents the cysts from attaching to flesh.

The whole thing seems very crooked, even down to how buddy buddy the Sargent seemed with the tow truck driver, it seemed like they had kicked a few back at one time or another..

My LFS tried a few times with copper power but they only lasted a week. I am guessing it was the copper but no clue. I didn’t know they are highly resistant to ich and velvet.
Now hopefully the other wrasse will be nice to him and he will be nice to the other wrasse

My QT protocol for wrasse I can not inspect before purchase(online).

  • 20 long QT tank
    • Bare bottom with PVC for fairies and flashes
    • bowl of sand for halichores or coris
    • 2" sand with live rock+pods for leopards
  • General cure in water for flukes/parasites, follow directions on box
  • Metro and focus in frozen. One scoop each per tbsp of thawed frozen. Feed for minimum of 10 days to get rid of intestinal parasites
  • Observe over 2 weeks for anything telling, then into display.
If I can observe the fish beforehand, like in a LFS... most of the time they go straight into my display. Prazipro can treat flukes in tank, metro+focus+frozen is reef safe to treat intestinal parasites also. They just have to be eating frozen, some leopards only eat pods for a while. Ich and velvet usually aren't an issue with wrasse.
