I'm going to do an arch in the shallow too. I think it gives the fish a feeling of security for escape. Not sure about the best approach yet.

Caribsea makes very nice arch pieces. Some come in the box of "shapes" rock, but I sweat I saw where someone got a large arch from them in a thread...

Fans in the canopy blowing out?

Your desired canopy that you showed an example of is not sitting on the tank, so not as important. It will be high off of the tank. Personally, I will have mine set up with one blowing in and the one on the opposite side blowing out. To me, that keeps a good flow of air coming in and going out. That is the way I had the 140 set up and it worked well for me.

It helps the bulbs work better to correct, having cool airflow? My LFS has one setup with hugeeee air ducts going in and out and a huge fan in it to keep it cool.

This thing is still insanely hot when you walk by. I get sweaty filling my RODI containers by it, lol. There’s no way you could have the one they have setup in your home without a fishroom type deal or a perfect hvac setup.

He's such a cool fish, he sits around on the sand or rocks on his bottom fins like a goby. He also made some cool spots to hide under the rockwork as well. But he's mostly out n about all day

To me, not as critical to ventilate a floating canopy, since you will have a lot of air space below it and possibly above it as well, depending on how it is made. I would probably still incorporate a couple of fans to help move some of the heat trapped in the upper part of the canopy, if it is closed off at the top. I would probably also include some vents on the top, it possible. Again, only saying what I would do. Remember, I am old.

Ehh, some more than others. Their utility at pest anemone eradication and beauty usually outweigh the minor damages they can cause. The orange or kelini butterflyfish absolutely demolishes aiptasta, but once they are gone it will turn to your corals.


The acans behind my copperband may or may not be retracted because of it. I've had some alk swings recently and it was almost lights out when this picture was taken.

She's gorgeous! My tank is too little now. But I wanted one when I had my 6 ft tank set up as a reef. I was just too afraid to try it.

Make sure it eats. That's the hardest thing with them.

this is in the living room and I'm guessing @Katrina71 hubby may not like a lot of extra noise. Seeming he is not a big fan of the tank. How much noise are we talking about. A little extra noise may drown out some grumbling

Oh I don't understand it either. Something about these Albertans blows my mind. No house built even 5-10 years ago has air conditioning installed. They keep telling me "Oh but it's a dry heat" and I keep telling them, "IT'S STILL HEAT!!!!" Air conditioning in Ontario is mandatory unless you want the life sucked out of you lol and that's where I'm from originally.

I've been to Ontario, Niagra Falls and Toronto. The falls are beautiful. It was in February. Lake Ontario is COLD at night in the middle of February. The CN Tower is something else. Went up top and stood on the glass floor. People looked like ants beneath me on the ground. This was all 20 years ago...

You should go there now, they have this thing called the sky walk. You go out on the catwalk above the restaurant and walk along the edge of the tower. Ofcourse you're wearing a harness and tied to a bar so you can't fall off but there absolutely no railing atall.

Little known fact, Niagara Falls is actually on the US side, the large horseshoe shaped falls are called just that, Horse Shoe Falls. It is absolutely stunning, I went on the maid of the mist when I was a kid and loved every minute of it.
