Brand New 8 gallon bio cube

Tempting.
A “better” scool is temping. But talents need to be nurtured.
A peer group, “ friends”, can be an important grounding and also esteem builder later in life.
In a standard school it may seem like the lesser path , but if opportunities come about that will enrich him beyond a school it’s likely a better education and experience,IMO.
A more competitive or academicly challenging curriculum may interfere with other opportunities. Trick with that is to insure those opportunities are sought out and followed through with.
IMO it’s hard with kids becuse those interests change. But I found it was best to still follow those interests and encourage the same passion and then , when interest is fading , follow the next one with the same gusto as the last one.

I’d look and listen to how he feels about his friends. What he really thinks about a a more challenging school. He may not communicate it directly very well with words(he is a male human after all:eek:), but you’ll know.
You’re Mom.

There is a high school here that you have to be invited to. It is the L&N Stem Academy in Knoxville. I'd like to know what y'all think about trying to get Andrew in there or letting him finish with his peers.

I would ask Andrew. If he is interested then by all means fan the flames! One thing some particularly bright kids often loose out on is a challenge and they then don't have a chance to reach their potential. I gave my kids every advantage we could in education. Private High school for at least two years each. Private grade school and private University for the youngest. One is an EMT working on his Paramedic/Firefighter certifications and that is all he wants for now. The other is a Bio Engineer working on his Masters in Bioinformatics. Each one is driven to be the best they can be on their own field. We encourage and nudge but in the end we want them to want it for themselves. I encouraged each of my sons to reach for something that is hard but rewarding each day you go to work. I encouraged them to not just settle for what is easy but for what is good. It takes struggle to build mussel and the same is recommended for the brain to develop.

By all appearances Andrew has the grades it is just a matter of desire. Check out the school and make sure they are teaching their students to be critical thinkers. Classical education is tough but gives a student the tools necessary to excel in life. We have to many who just swallow what ever is given them with out being critical thinkers. Critical thinking skills will prevent a student from being mislead in life. Lets face it in our world today critical thinking and problem solving is needed even more than in the past.

My oldest son's name is Andrew so I am partial to your choice in names! Names mean something and Andrew means manly or first man in many places. That is a legacy to give your son the chance to become the man that would make his mother and father proud. Our society needs men who are honest, courageous, civil, driven to excel without stepping on others, young men that will give others a hand up in life. Andrew sounds like that kind of young man. Wish you all the best as you help him select his path.

Wish you all well on the opportunity and choice.

On to tank talk. The stand...all of my other furniture pieces that we have made over the years is stained with Bombay Mahogany. This piece will be the largest. A big cube. All of my trim, including the mantle, is Satin White. I was thinking about doing this stand white, but still trying to decide.

I love that idea. Make it really stand out, but work in the room.
