Now I want to watch Major Payne
I quote part of this all the time! "Pop that..."

No. It's no big deal.
It would be nice to have it pointing the same direction as the rest of your fingers though. :-)

Be sure when you build your stand to design it so you can get the sump out from under the tank, should you want to upgrade in the future, or just deep clean it at some point.

I have another plumbing question. I'd like a shut off from the DT to the sump. In the event we have an oh crap with the sump. What should I use?
Ball valves or gate valves depending on what type of drain you have. Do you know what kind of drain the tank is drilled for?

Ball valve will work just fine for the return shut off. I like using the Spears gate valve to regulate the drain. They turn so smooth and are built very well.

I prefer DC return pumps. They are adjustable so you could get one slightly overpowered and turn it down to suit your tank. They also slowly ramp up when you turn them on from say, cleaning or feed mode, so they don't all of a sudden spit the full flow of water out all at once. It doesn't water hammer (big slug of water rushing thru empty pipe, you should hear 24" steel pipe hammer and shake back and forth ;Nailbiting) your plumbing and there are less micro bubbles blasted into the water on start up.

Smart. Thanks Robin.
