Brand New 8 gallon bio cube

This is information from BRS

This shows the surface area:

This helps understand how much surface area is actually available (deep within the rock)

So for example while the Pukani and Reef Saver have the same surface area, the porosity of the Pukani makes that surface area more available to water. You can run water through MarinePure it is so available.

This is the whole thing
geez thats rediculous!

Matrix and MarinePure have more surface area and no possible decayed organics.

That’s what I attempted to say lol. Appreciate all the info

Thinking about adding marinepure in place of the Bubble trap. Need to read more first

i may be wrong on this, but when it comes to sand beds, there is not point in running one if its not going to be deep... 3+ inches. please correct me if im wrong, thats just what i learned.

Looks. Mine is only 1 - 1 1/2” but I understand what your saying.

true. i always thought of sand as a means of filtration so i was told the deeper the better. thats why i run 3-3.5". But i have considered making a nano with a bare bottom.

@najer I will most likely not run my skimmer all the time either. Unless something drastically changes with this tank from what I have going on now.

I guess it will be what you want it to be, the hippy kid will get his mind expanded, as will you, enjoy the build! :)
How complicated can it be? ;)

Hippie kid and I agree on a sandbed. There are benefits and negatives. I think if you have the right life in your sand, it could be key to a successful reef. That is a double edged sword though.

I like a very thin sand layer 0.5 to 1 inch max, and I don't mind if there some part of glass bottom are showing

@siggy I am wondering how are you gonna quote the last three words of this message ;Hilarious

Sand is fine. I really do not even notice anymore on tanks. Much like a real reef I am not looking at the substrate. You and Andrew will love the tons of critters keeping it clean and moving anyway.
