I'm already on day nine of running fluconazole my bryopsis is definitely dying but I'm having a serious problem with the cyano which had already started from using vibrant but got a lot worst as all this algae started dying off already lost a couple of frags...
I need to get rid of it asap what do you guys recommend
On day 6 with minor change so far. Has anyone else forgotten to turn off their skimmer? I did. Think I should add back a little of the Flucon to compensate?
+1 Vibrant is the cause of cyano. Had this happen to me as well. Looks like the algae smothered the frags. When fluconazole kills it off and after you do chemiclean they may come back.Vibrant seems to be doing that for a lot of people's tanks. After my Fluconazole treatment I ran two days of chemiclean to get rid of my cyano. It hasn't come back yet.
Do you think red slime remover can be used during treatment?

Im starting to doubt how effective this stuff is against Derbasia.
I dosed Fluco early Saturday afternoon after a water change and while I do realize its only been 48 hours, Im noticing now that Im home from work that in some areas the derbasia has grown or become more full. I also feel like in seeing some pictures of other folks who are having a hard time that some of their algae looks more similar to derbasia than to bryopsis.
Im going back and forth on whether I want to start a 2nd dose, especially so early into the first treatment. I took away the filter socks, have my skimmer turned off and also the GFO/Carbon reactor. Im definitely seeing the effects of that as I had to clean my glass today when I usually dont have to do that til Wednesday at the earliest.
Ive read this entire thread and I do know that people have said it takes longer for this to remove derbasia, but the fact the mine has shown signs of health and possibly growth after 48 hours is not encouraging. I feel like all Im doing right now is helping to feed the stuff with all my filtration equipment turned off
That being said, if Im wrong, Ill be the first one doing backflips
I do apologize as we approach 1400 posts in this thread, and I haven't read them all, but I don't recall a single post stating that fluconazole does anything for derbasia. It's for bryopsis....with some now starting to report some impact on gha....but that's yet to be seen with clear proof. Where did you see this impacting derbasia?
EDIT TO ADD: Derbasia could be GHA. Again, yet to be proven.
Derbasia is not GHA, its turf algae. Its more similar to bryopsis than it is to GHA. Like Bryopsis, its hard to manually remove, it can survive in low nutrient systems, and also in areas with little to no light.
If youre looking for a post in this thread where it says this stuff can kill Derbesia you can look no further than Page 1, Post 1. Theres also several other posts and pictures where its mentioned throughout the thread. Some pictures looked like derbesia some didnt.
Q: What other nuisance algae's will be killed by Fluconazole?
A: Fluconazole kills the green algae Derbesia also known as GHA. It seems that GHA takes longer to kill than the bryopsis but it still dies. Bubble algae is unknown due to most reefers treating their tanks have been using Vibrant. Vibrant kills bubble algae very well.
Im not trying to sound snarky or anything, its pretty obvious from the results on this thread and others that Fluco kills Bryopsis, Im just pointing out that we may need to pump the brakes on lumping Derbesia or turf algae into the equation as well. Also, i think constantly referring to Derbasia as GHA is a mistake, even if you want to classify Derbasia as a form of GHA, it is SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult to remove than your regular run of the mill GHA. This can lead to some of the confusion when people are saying it works in one case and not the other.
Just one mans opinion
