Bubble Coral

That's true and one thing I've noticed is I have no idea what I'm doing

Everyone is here to help. I think issue number we should solve is your water. As others have said, it’s really best to use RODI water. There’s no telling what’s coming out of your tap. I personally got lazy twice when I was out of my RODI water and didn’t feel like waiting to make more and used tap as top off in the span of a week which was a total of only a couple gallons and I had an algae bloom because of it.

Once you get the water issue solved, we can move on to other things like lighting etc.

i'll do a 50% water change first thing in the morning is there any chemicals i should put into the water after the water change that you would recommend right now the only thing i'm using is water conditioner and Thanks for all the advice it's been so helpful i'm not sure how that the entire reef and all the fish have survived with me not having the right equipment to maintain them also i have a sand bed in mine what's the best way to get the left over food off the bottom without pulling out all the sand. sorry for the 50 questions again and Thank you so much for all the help.
1 use only rodi water for changes and top of
2 don't add chemicals for now
3 get a vacuum siphon to clean up your Sand bed
4 watch the 5 min videos on brs YouTube to learn more about the hobby
5 never give up

thank all of you for the help and no one around west Virginia has anything like that so I had to order it off line says it will be here in 5 days so when I get it do I do a half change or a total water change?

thank you so much for all the help seriously and hopefully if anyone else has this question they can read all of this and learn a lot from this post

Not sure how big your tank is but you can get distilled water from the grocery store by the gallon for the time being. To start doing some water changes until you get a ro unit in place.

Just start using it to do regular water changes. About 20% per week or so. It's not the tap water that is causing a problem with that coral. People are just jumping on that because it seems obvious to them.

Don't panic. That is the number one problem in reefkeeping. People try and "fix" things all at once. The problem is you had a tank for 5 months before getting a test kit. Now you have to make sure your water chemistry is stable. So far your pH is low and nitrates are high. Any idea what your salinity is?

What part of WV Im less then 1hr from WV depending on the part you are in.

no i have not found the kit anywhere but online i have to drive hours to the closest place to get dish or anything so finding kits for salt water or anything for saltwater is all done online

that's a good idea so for now 20% of 55 Gallons is only 12 gallons so that won't be really expensive and thanks for the great idea

If you want to keep corals you are going to need all the kits. Water chemistry is crucial.

What kind of Rodi system did you get you have any pictures of it set up
Where is your protein skimmer located in a sump or hang on back

Hob protein skimmer could be giving off micro bubbles which could make your water seem cloudy. My rodi makes 5 gallons every 1h 25m. But I don't have a booster. Did you get a TDs meter? Is it measuring 0?

If you are only getting one gallon an hour, you probably need a booster pump because your water pressure is not high enough. I had to get one as well, my water pressure at my house is too low. I get almost 3 gallons an hour now, on a 50 gallon-per-day unit.

But yes - distilled from the store works in a bind. I used it quite often. I also agree that your nitrates are high, and your bubble is not impressed. My bubble coral is very picky about my water quality- which is why I'm getting ready to test it right now. My bubble coral is not as happy this morning as he usually is. But here it is, as it usually is. Best wishes!

Wow your bubble coral is Beautiful and After i got the new Machine installed i did a 30 Gallon Clean up to take most of the tap water out of the aquarium and the coral still isn't responding almost 18 hours later
