Glad you got it figured out. I was going to say it's breaking in. New skimmers take a while to settle in... especially in tanks that haven't been skimmed

Something is making the bubbles start to low. They should start above the bubble plate that rests on top of the pump.

Hemmdog is right, the bubbles should not be starting that low, my magnus is running at 9 inches and took about a 6 weeks to break in but did NOT have bubbles that low in the chamber.
Find out why they are and solve it and you can start the break in again, love mine.

Probably a dumb question, but are you dosing any extra things, (MicroBacter7, etc) Certain additives will do that to a skimmer.

put a pinch valve on the air line. The pump on the 5 is a bit too strong. reduce the airflow slightly and lower the water in the sump (put skimmer on stand) will all help
I have the A5 and it is too powerful. I assume the 5 has the same issue

I have this very unit in my cube sump and it’s not the quietest and seems to clog easily.

Yeah, mine is quiet until a small piece of debris makes it into pump. Been meaning to DIY some kind of sponge or something to minimize this..

Same here

Definitely agree that there was something in the water that your skimmer did not like. Recommended working water level is 9” so the water level isn’t an issue. Next time it does it pull up a bucket next to it and have the skimmer cup drain line empty all the contaminated water into it. Make sure you have fresh salt water to replace all the water it pulls out.

Glad it worked out. Mine had done the opposite and wouldn't go over the into the cup. I ended up modifying my skimmer chamber water level to be 8" high.
I had a Vertex 130 but with the Eshopps Med cube sump, it was to large and was noisy from the contact with the sump walls.
