I've never seen a website that doesn't give you the option to not save your payment information when you enter it.

I don't think he said the Internet is the only way to have your id stolen anywhere in his post. Just that the Internet is A way.

It doesn't matter if you saved your credit card or not. They got ahold of everything. Account name, password.... Anything that you ever put in their system was compromised.

Correct, I didn't save my info and my card was already used to make purchases.

All this being said and having happened, I'll be making an order of some stuff I need from BRS and contemplating the monitoring service they offered for free this weekend.

I use PayPal to purchase from Bulk Reef Supply and other online stores. If I have to create an account I generate a special password in 1Password. https://agilebits.com/onepassword

I use paypal as well and have no stored credit cards. Anything special I need to do?

I thought I was okay, but just got the letter and made two different orders during the time period.

I changed my PayPal password and brs password I also only use 1 credit card online so if there's a problem I should see it

I got a letter today to. I also had my cc info stolen, the bank caught it and cancelled my card before any harm was done. Not sure if it was stolen from BRS or elsewhere, since I also do home depot and they had the same thing happen.

FYI.. I received written notification from brs today advising of the breach and when it occurred. They informed me of the dates of the breach and also offered a free year of credit protection to all customers that had shopped during the period in question. I reside in South Florida which is number one in identity theft and fraud, among other crimes. I'm sure many of you have been victims of some kind of fraud or had your email or facebook hacked, income tax fraud, scams, skimmers at atm's, etc.
Remember when Target had all the customers information taken. Also watch out for Craig's list, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. I don't think you can blame BRS or any other company for getting hacked. Put the blame where it belongs on the hackers/criminals.
Also watch out for the con games on Craig's list. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Hoping no one here gets scammed... Be aware.

Received a letter today too! Does BRS actually save credit card info (actual number) or does it only save the authorization data? The former is a big no-no in eCommerce.

I got a letter also. Funny there was no 20% off coupon included. It's best to contact your card company and let them know. It's a pain, but a safe way to go.

FWIW, Amazon alerted me that my card may have been compromised since folks were buying unusual (for me) stuff (and it was). They also bought dates from Match.com and wireless connections from Xfinity. A couple of weeks later I get the BRS letter, and now I know the likely leak.

Did the bank cancel your card when they alerted you?I had my hacked also,my bank called me and ask asked about a transaction about airline tickets.

Amazon alerted me, I alerted the bank, and when the bank and I saw there was stuff I didn't authorize, they cancelled the card.

I just got an email from Premium Aquatics saying that one of their "fellow aquarium stores" got hacked and they went on to explain their own security protocols to help protect us. Funny how Premium Aquatics didn't get hacked, but sent out a mass email letting customers know about their systems, yet BRS never even sent out a mass email to let us know when they actually got hacked.

Ide like to know if they stored our actual Credit Card too. I had my card compromised about a month and a half ago, luckily my CC company caught it. Its never happened before either.
