Not reef safe, anything that can fit in its mouth is a meal. Plus they need a large tank.
Won't touch coral.Even coral?
Even if the fish are larger than the grouper it will still try to eat them. It's their nature, they grow very large very fast and in captivity ppl who do keep them give them their own huge tank
It's not about weight with these. How much is a 6-8 inch grouper weigh? I am going to get the runt of the group.

I'm on my phone so don't see a location if you have 1 listed. I've never seen fish by the pound unless at the market/grocery store. They cost 7.99 a pound, so I wanted an estimated cost.
Is a 9 foot 900 pound fish really what you want in your house?
Not trying to be a negative Nancy, I would want a 9 foot grouper too.... if I had a tank big enough and the assets at my disposal. The reason this fish won't reach 9 foot is because it will die long before that, sorry.
A friend of mine once bought a tiny Bumble Bee Grouper. "Lou" grew to be over two feet long. It died when it ate part of a powerhead...
It says they get, on average, around 400 lbs, so I guess it depends how small they are now is the key. I've seen those tanks before, the grocery store by me wouldn't let me take it home live. I tried to buy a catfish from them one timeIt is a supermarket that sells fresh seafood.
