Good call. Lights all spread out on the table while we think. Something we ordered is the wrong size.

"Shouldn't of done that"... :D :(

I didn't transplant my luffa seedlings from inside before they started vining - then I didn't move them still because lazy.

Now they're about to flower :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Snail crew is making decent work of the sheet algae in the pico, starting to look better for sure. Unfortunately, it looks like I still have a little aiptasia in there and will need to add bergs again - I'm going to wait until they're done cleaning up the crazy algae first. I think the aiptasia got buried under it and they couldn't access the full scope of it.

Started up my phyto and pods again yesterday, as well as the bbs cultures. Fed the tank bbs this morning and all the small fish were excited about it.

Today I intend to go through with glue and putty and get all the new corals in place properly in the cube. When I unbagged the waving hand anthelia there was a loose piece that floated off, it has somehow found itself on the top of the rockwork and latched in good. Maybe hitched a ride on the urchin or something. I'm not worried, this tank is going to be overrun with softies by the time I'm happy with it.

Also plan on pulling out the lights I have for the peninsula and figuring what else I'm going to need to mount them so I can get started on planning out the lighting frame.

Hopefully sand comes back in stock soon. Looking at a calculator says about 134lbs for approx 1.5 inches deep. I plan to put down some eggcrate first where rock will be, then rock on that, then sand to fill the voids and everything else, so I'm not sure if that's accurate or if it'll be way too much or what. Any input?

Tank is 59 long and 29.5 wide

I guess if it's a little deeper than the goal of 1.5 it'll be fine, the wrasse will appreciate it. Just needs to come back in stock. Or I go with something other than Tropic Eden - but I've definitely been happier with their sand over options I've used in the past.

Maybe I hold out on ordering sand until we get the light frame built, get the tank officially in place, and start filling it up :thinking-face: I can always fill with water and rock then remove a little once I hit that point if sand doesn't arrive before fill up. Going to need some time anyway before I can transfer fish over. If what I want still isn't in stock by the time I'm ready to move fish then I'll get something else.

Anyway, time for a coffee slushi and tank glue.
I used about 1/2 the sand because I buried my rocks but you have a wider tank than mine. I think I did about 100 pounds in the 125 for a 2.5"-3" depth - no egg crate.

72" x 18"

I should add - that was about 3 years ago so I think it was 100 pounds...

ETA: Build Thread says 90 pounds
I could probably look and see how much I used for the cube to move it here and double it. Cube is not quite the same dimensions halved, but I have it *super* thick and I don't need it as thick for the peninsula. I did the sand bed a lot thicker for the cube because I intend on adding garden eels after this crew moves out.

I actually did some gluing today! I didn't just claim I was going to then get distracted.

That one gorg that should be in the gap on the right side of the upper rockwork just won't stay no matter what

Once the uglies clear out of the pico better I'm moving the tube nem. I think the bright orange will contrast really well on the black sand.

7 interviews lined up for today at a hotel near our store. 3 of us will be there to do them today, then Wednesday 2 of us have 9 to knock out -- if everyone shows up for each interview.

I'm already tired thinking about it.

All 7 showed up yesterday. We're hiring 2 of them... pending background checks. We were able to fill one of the 2 remaining leader roles & a trainer.

Hopefully there's new apps in there today.

Hopefully tomorrow is more successful, that's for the core team.

Have I mentioned I'm tired?

Interviews are exhausting.

Fishy shared his journey looking through old photos... made me look.

Day 1: picked up from someone, couldn't see through it when I picked it up, half the lights didn't work. Got it home, cleaned the glass first....

First things I did once it cleared up? Replace lights and add powerhead. Not too long after, I replaced that loose blue backer for black.

Right before it moved to the free 90

90 filled and everything moved over and it looks so empty...

I think this was close to the 90s end of days.... If not, it's at least much evolved from the other photo.

Towards the end of that tank, before the sell off and downsize so we could move

I really need to get this peninsula up and running so I can get back to that....

Love stepping back in time and seeing where we started. of course i have no pics of my very first reef tank, it was a 29g in the late 90s with black dolomite substrate, a reg fluorescent light, and my first fish was an electric blue damsel. mean little thing. ive had tubs, ponds, and even drilled my own 75 gallon with a closed loop and internal overflow before i got out of the hobby for around 15 years.

freshwater would be about 89 saltwater would be around 97...
about the same "kid" ,about 5yrs old w the fresh ,can remember fw tanks 1974 ? kindergarten... :)

My first tank was around 8 years old. By 10 I had 6 or 7 setups in my bedroom including a Zebra Danio breeding tank (they never bred, but it was a cool experiment).

First saltwater was around 2010, ran for about 3 years, stopped for about 6 years, back on for about 5 now.
