I thought i would start a tank thread for this little guy. I'll post a bunch of pics today. And then hopefully try and update monthly. I'd try and update every time i got a new frag. But i'd be posting every day
. ( This tank was set up on January 8th 2016)
The Cadlights Versa Stand. I went with white to match my Kitchen Cabinets. It turned out pretty nice and i love the material that covers the wood. It wipes down very easy. Putting it together was a different story. It came with no instructions, So that was a little bit of a frustration. But i think it turned out nice.
I love this tank and seems to well built with the Starfire Glass.
The plumbing that it came with all the wrong sizes and basically the only pieces i ended up using was the bulk head and the return pump. I had to trash everything else.
I love the sump that it came with, But the only problem is, Once you put that cross member up. There is no getting that sump out of there.... EVER. As you'll see in the pictures below i changed up the plumbing configuration completely.
Had to do some more plumbing adjusting. The size that they sent with the set up was off and made the overflow sound SUPER loud. After some adjusting i got this thing next to Silent.
As you can see i changed the setup a little bit from what the instructions say. I wanted the return pump to have a direct shot straight up into the overflow. And by doing this it also quieted the drain quite a bit and gave me a lot more flow. I am actually still using the cheap return pump that was sent with the kit. It seems to be doing the job still for now. So we will see how long it can hold out.
This was the first try at the Aquascape. I ended up moving it around a touch in the end but it's basically still the same idea. I wanted something a little different than what most people have so i went with a bunch of the branches.
Here is where it sits in my Kitchen I had to do quite a bit of shimming once it was filed with water. One thing i learned is that the leveling of the tank will definitely change once the water is put in there. Especially on the wood floors.
This is the LED light i went with. I actually love this thing and can control everything from my Laptop or I phone. This little light has been more than enough to grow pretty much anything I've thrown in there. And i'm running it at about 75%. Eventually i may have to get a 2nd one but for now this thing packs plenty of punch.
This was the first time i turned the light on. This is a 30 X16 X16 and you can see the corners are getting plenty of light. The reason i may end up adding a 2nd light is to get rid of some of the shadowing. But the all the shadows comes with the territory of using all the branches in the aquascape.
PS: yes that is Macro Algae in the tank. I threw it in there to get rid of all the gunk that was floating around. I left it in there for a few days and it seemed to clean up the sediment pretty good.
Side few of the first coral i put in there. Pulsing Xenia. It was free and i thought would be a good indicator coral for how my tank was doing and the cycling stages. Below you'll see a pic of how much this thing has actually taken off.
Of course Clowns were the first fish that i put in there once my tank had cycled. But this was my first real fish that i got. Love this Mimic Tang. He eats everything and cleans my rocks and glass all day everyday.
This was about 3 weeks into it. Starting putting some coral in there. You can see the Xenia (Top Right Corner) wasn't doing so hot at this point. My cycling went pretty quick because i used some rock and sand from established tanks.
The day i got my ATO and Skimmer. Went with the Micro ATO and the Bubble Maggus 3 Skimmer.
This picture was taken Feb 13th 2016 So about 5 weeks after setup.
This is my latest Fish add to the tank. The X-Mas Wrasse.
This pic was taken March 16th. about 10-11 weeks in at this point. ( Notice the size of the Xenia)
Took this pic on Friday. April 15th 2016
And here are a few Corals i've been able to add that are all doing Awesome now that my tank is becoming more established. Took these pics last night. April 19th 2016
Pin wheels
Toadstool Leather. Once the guy fragged it for me it took about 2 weeks to fully open up.
War Coral, Already showing his tentacles.
Stay Tuned, I have alot more Coral in there now. I'm just waiting for my Macro Lens so i can get some good pics of it.
