Calling on all bluethroat trigger owners

I recently bought a pair of blue throats m/f. The first couple of days they were really shy. For some reason my blue tang was aggressive toward the male. The female tried to go carpet surfing but ended up on my overflow instead. I had to drain the overflow and take a pair of aqua tongs to snatch her out. She survived and about a couple months later they’re now acclimated. They don’t go after inverts and pretty much leave other tank mates alone. The male is a little dopey though. He likes hanging out around my hammer coral that is hosted by my 4 inch oscelaris. I once found his tale in the clown fishes mouth and he was trying to get away. I think he’s finally figured it out.

Digging up this old post and hopefully if someone can share how their trigger(s) doing.

I had kept them a few years ago unfortunately they went to a better place.

the first one I got was a female i though it was a male. Anyway, I added a male couple months later. The male then turned female I would say few months later? I was speechless.

I want a pair but I really don’t want that happen again. However, as someone of you mentioned that if keeping one, there’s a high chance that it will loose its color.

now, I have kept another male after the pair, it remained a male but unfortunately it was bullied by dory to a point that it didn’t make it after I came back from a long vacation.

so, I would like to hear from you guys.

I'm pretty sure Triggers don't transition to male/female like some other fish do like wrasses. Had my pair for a couple of years and never had any issues.

My male blue throat seems to change "shades" depending on his mood. He is 10x more skittish than the female. She is a rockstar! So much personality

Perhaps that’s what happened but can’t be sure.

So on the last one you tried it was bullied by a blue tang and didn't make it? How big is your tank? Your best bet may be to try and find a pair that's already together and maybe that will help

This thread helped me a lot when choosing my pair of blue throat triggers. I want to share that my male trigger will absolutely kill new smaller fish such as damsels and firefish. It will chase and nip and rip off their tails till they can't swim and die a slow death. My male is small but it was part of the first batch of fish I added to a new tank. I read they are shy and should be added first but that was a mistake for my male. He was shy the first couple of weeks but now runs the tank. He's fine with existing tank mates but will not tolerate new additions.

Speaking of fire fish, I lost my helfrichi after adding a second male smh. Can’t say he did it but
