lol well come one now they are awsome LOL if u ever wanna frag lmk!!!

Ok, what I want to know is HOW MUCH POST PROCESSING are you guys doing to these images? I have a Canon EOS 20D and a sigma 105MM macro lens, which is a more expensive camera than Rev's Rebel XT (and of approximately the same age) -- how are the pictures you take so much better? What is your tank lit by? I have an L-glass Canon telephoto lens that doesn't even get pictures that good, if I am trying even to do a FTS. All my images always come out looking overexposed, no matter what I do, and, even with custom white balance set, my point and shoot camera does better. what the heck? Can I get a few pointers here, please :) ?

i don't process usually. those were just how i took them with a P&S... CANON and 3 YEARS OLD

ok....

So Chris... How do you like your D3 for tank shots and overall performance? How soon do you think it will be before you get the D700? Have you had the chance to use one yet? I'm asking as I am looking to upgrade my D80 and the D700 seems like the logical choice for me, but I haven't had any first hand reviews.

Thanks
-Tom

To be honest, I haven't used the D3 for any shots of the tank. I've only used my D300. I have yet to put my hands on a D700, but plan to in the couple weeks. The D3 is just phenomenal. It does whatever I want it to. There are no limits. I was shooting with no flash last weekend at 4000 iso. Virtually NO noise. It's an amazing camera and worth every penny. The D700 looks very promising as well. Not much difference between it and the D3 besides speed and a couple other things. If you have a bunch of DX lenses, be prepared to get rid of them. :)

Just a note for those who may or may not be considering a D700.

This is a FX format, meaning FULL FRAME. Unless you plan on being able to afford to purchase Pro lenses, of which are 3-4x as $$$, you should consider a lesser camera.

When you put a DX lens on a FX body, a large percentage of viewfinder will be cropped out...

This obviously would be a pain in the but when trying to compose your photos.

Just thought i would give you a heads up.

FWIW, who knows about who can get what price on what.

From what i know about Best Buy (i know it was CC in the convo).

There is definitely NOT a straight set discount on ALL items.

For example, on Cables the discount it HUGE...on a flat screen TV, its 100 bucks give or take.

They certainly have different markups on different products, just like every other business out there.

Also note, that the new Nikon cameras body being all magnesium, and gold electrical contacts, along with other high end materials, and 80% discount seems to be extreme.

So rather than go back and forth on its legality, and if its going to happen or not, lets wait and see what happens. If he gets the camera, great.

If not, I dont want to see everyone jumping all over him.

This thread was designed for a photo war, not an arguement about buying cameras direct, etc...

I will be cleaning up this thread, and getting it back on track.

IF it's necessary to continue this discussion do it in a new thread.
