Chalice FAD

Its all i see... kindof like when purple hornets came on the market...

i give it 6 months before something else comes up and chalice prices half themselves...

What are your predictions?

I've been collecting chalices for 5 years and its been only getting worse. Will it fall off a bit; yes. But not completely ;)

mark is 1/2 the reason for my echino addiction. d*** you and your pretty pictures!

I'm sorry guys... but I don't like chalices that much. A couple of nice ones growing on your rockwork is great, but 50 on a sandbed doesn't look that good. But to each his own! I would rather have a nice acro or acan... :)

I agree, but that's an aquascaping issue, not a chalice issue...

I get made fun of for collecting Euphyllia :D

I love Euphyllia too Peter. I need to get an aussie gold torch and hammer.
Here's an old pic of my obsession. I wish I would have kept these guys.

and now the euphyllia fad starts!!! :D

i love them, too. all i have left at the moment is a wicked orange/blue tip torch. killed my orange wall with a light change...along with a lot of other stuff. :(

i agree w/ ktar.

reason: echinos grow slow in relation to other "fad" corals.

100% agreed. I was discussing this earlier with a fellow reefer. Some chalices take months to grow an eye, I can grow multiple polyps of a "rare" zoo, frag it sell and to two friends and they frag and sell to two friends and so and so on... until the market is flooded.
It going to take awhile with some chalices-granted I have about over a dozen in the last two weeks and my wallet has road rash, from being taken out and put back-plus its empty-LOL

Tomorrow Fed ex is delivering Toxic pie, Tyree BGM, Tyree rainbow delight. I bought Rastafarian today, Oregon ME, and that's just off of the top off my head.

I be fragging in time-

i'll have to take one. i've seen pictures of ones like it here before. cherry corals usually has one like it on their site. *edit - no, theirs is yellow.

Has anyone every taken into account that many people that are buying chalices now will not be in the hobby in 5 years? Possibly, even myself. There is such a large turnover in the reefing commuinty as I know that I have come and gone more than once. Just a little food for thought about what fuels a fad; there is always the next guy who covets what someone else already has ;)

Everyone cashing in :).. Everyone collecting now for the money ;)..

Yep, it's a sad state for the hobby when someone shows a picture of a "mother colony" and it's sitting on a frag rack. So many people that follow the fads in the hobby strongly have nothing more than glorified frag tanks as a display.

Preach on. I've always wondered why would people want to have 50-100 frags when they can have a display.
