chalice or any coral for that matter ???'S

So does it start with mr coral??? Or the collector he got it from??
I think that day a couple vendors were sitting on them and 1 or 2 got a fresh one in and as soon one posted it broke loose lol..

Would you not then have a name in the game? You have this cherry piece that no one has, and you post pics, have friends view it and post pics. You would be contacted by droves of people, business and the Tyree type people for a piece of the action. If I ever get the chance to harvest my own corals and find a gem; the last thing I would do would be to let it go to someone, so they can make a literal fortune off of my coral. They all come from the ocean, name away, buy what you like, who cares, as long as it looks good to you.....

Too each their own.. I would rather have someone with a huge name hobby-wide hit me up and ask me for a piece personally and see if get big that way.... I mean, who am I?

Your situation is a little different than what we are talking about.... sometimes corals look and grow different under different lighting, and in different tanks. Camera/skills and post editing also have to do with most picture comparison questions... If you got a coral from a LFS or a person that was supposed to be something, and they can't back up the linage story to the originator, then chances are it's a fake/look a like or whatever... It may not be, but if someone is requesting a high price for a high price coral they better be able to track it back to the guy who first got the colony and went "oooooooooooooooooooooooooo."
cannot agree more with you

As an example, I ask a guy who sells Desert Sunset chalice at the moment if his source knows the origins of the coral...he was right on--->RMW( and we talking about 2 years sir after RoesMW lost its colony)...But in the case of Blanes PEs , I think,a lot of the lost value(from$50 to $20 pp) is due to impossibility to track it back to Blane...
Mmm, what else, ea nice chatting. it is 420 at my pad lol

Depends if the vendor sells them as "Strawberry Shortcake." I think..

For example... When I worked at a LFS, the vendors would mostly have "orange zoa, green zoa etc etc" on the list... sometimes they would have something they would name. I hardly saw one of the vendor names ever online on a reef forum.. or zoaid.... etc.... One vendor had "Ring of Fire/Flame/Ice" Zoas... ordered them, nothing like the ones on Zoaid.

There are 3 groups of people in the naming game it seems...
-Vendors
-LFS
-Collectors/Hobbyists

All three could have touched the same piece, but I guess it's who makes it famous first? I dunno man.... It's confusing.

That's not cool man.... Gotta share!!!! No cbl... "coral blocking leauge" I just learned about that ROFL.... A nice piece is a nice piece I would share just for the fact if it went south I could get one back from who ever I gave it to...

so if i get a chalice or zoas or any coral from the ocean and there is no name for it, and it started with me does that signify that i can give it a name and start the "lineage" with me? just want to know because i have some stuff that i have never seen around and everyone always wants to know the "lineage":ooh:

when asked the lineage you answer their questions honestly, tell them who/where you got it and charge a price that is fair to everyone involved. If it is rare(within the hobby)charge what it is worth to you, if they don't like it continue to enjoy it for yourself. Thats what i do. If you really need the money you are at the mercy of what the market will pay.

I guess the way I look at it is every well known collector was just a collector until they found that one primo piece. To say that you have to be well known to name something is just a crock of bs. Every collector is know for certain pieces. Before that they were joe schmoes like the rest of us. I think the name game is getting a little out of control. Only because every single AVERAGE piece has a name. Not trying to bash anyone here I completely understand lineage and respect that. I sure as hell don't wanna pay top dollar for something that did not directly originate from the original piece in question. At the same time I don't mind spending good money for something with no name at all.

Either way, the desire to name stuff also creates the desire for new yet to be named stuff... which means people will be trying to get more and more colors/morphs/corals imported into the states.... Overall I think it is good for all of us, because when the day is over we all just want to stare at the pretty colors in the water box.
