I've been out of it all weekend with family and shopping and work. (yes I work and I'm a Stay at home mom ;) ) Anyway, I get to really looking at my fish and notice that my pygmy angle is litterally chasing it's tail. My dog still does this when he's anxious. He spent several hours swimming in a tight circle chasing that tail and didn't even stop to eat. I did a water change and moved some cups and stuff around in the process and now he's hiding. When I looked he wasn't swimming in tight circles anymore but then i saw him do it again later in the evening. I've never seen or heard of this.

I dont plan on adding this fish back to my DT at all. I'm going to bring him back to the LFS for a discount on a new fish, but I'm concerned that whatever this is could be might be contagious. I'll get pics when the lights come on. Thanks for the help.

I should also mention, there is no heavy breathing, twitching or flashing. He along with all the others have been through two prazi treatments.... one before the 30 days of copper and 1 after that. They have also all had a good solid dose of antibiotics. Still this weird fish...

Dwarf angels will sometimes display weird behavior. I had a Coral Beauty who would swim in circles for hours around a powerhead. Almost like he was doing laps around it, presumably to maintain his girlish figure. Wouldn't eat or anything while in OCD mode like this. ;) Next day he was fine until his OCD kicked in again. :)

Im glad to know it's probably nothing. I was truley stumped! I woulda felt kinda bad to trade him in if he sick

Maybe he heard you were giving him up and is trying to amuse you enough to change your mind? I mean tail chasing always seems to be considered cute for dogs.

You know what? My dog trigger chases his tail and it was really cute when I got him. Now it's just annoying. He actually catches it and holds on to it. He will lay down holding his tail in his teeth and wine while looking at me like I"m the worst for not scratching his butt. He's pulled the hair out when doing this so that he has a bald spot on his tail! grrr. wierd dogs

In all honesty I think we don't give fish enough mental credit. I think they can suffer from anxiety and be just plain board in captivity sometimes.

The more I think about it, the more I think I used to have a Flameback that chased his tail. Memory isn't what it used to be. Wife pointed out just yesterday that I can't remember what she said just 5 mins ago, but I know the stats/contract status of every NFL player. ;)

I agree with that. this QT is pretty boring. Although there is a pretty mug with dolphins on it! AND they are close enough to watch TV so really.... what's there to complain about? lol

Maybe he doesn't like your program choices? I know tail chasing/bitting is a common ailment in beta fish. What is more boring then living alone in a vase?

I dont like my choice in programming either. Cartoons ALL DAY LONG can really drive an adult crazy. I might start chasing my own tail!

Somebody needs to rescue ME too!!!
pawpatrol, wallykazam, mickey mouse, doc mcstuffins!!! oh my!

I don't even "get" cartoons of today, except for South Park. ;) But I can watch Wile E. Coyote chase The Road Runner all day long. I also miss Sylvester & Tweety. :)

I'm with you on that. but I will say that these cartoons do teach Jacob a lot of things. there's one called Team Umizoomi or something like that and he's learned a lot about shapes and colors and patterns that are well above his age. He has a vocabulary that no 2 or 3 year old should have, so that's why I put up with them. I dont let him watch things like sponge bob. I can't tolerate that kind of stuff.

Here's a video of him doing it. Just in case he's not just weird....
