I used 100% BRS rock to set up my 125g. It did leach out some phosphate initially, but once it settled in, I've had no problems with that. IMO, the initial spike in phosphates is worth the tradeoff in completely eliminating potential hitchhikers.

So after doing some googling I'm confused about bulkheads... how does the water get into my other tank? it seems like it's just sit there?

I think they drill a hole for $10.

Water seeks the path of least resistance and flows because of gravity. When one tank fills up it will flow into the other. No siphon needed. Bulkheads just have a rubber seal to keep the hole from leaking. Thats all.

Pretty much the idea. I think you would be able to do them at exactly the same height if you wanted to. Just as long as the second tank's bulkhead is not higher than the first tank you should be good!

Yes you will need an overflox box or a pvc overflow to get water from the tank to sump.

Rockwork looks good, I like it. That sunlight hitting your front glass may create some issues with algae growth, possibly heat issues also. You may want to move it before you fill it up.
Anyone else think this may be an issue down the road?

I think that skimmer in the back there, rated for 225 gallons may take care of it.
