Friday-- new light here we come!

Maybe I'll get a new coral or anemone on the weekend to put under it. :) my tank has been waiting for a light.

Thanks. I just searched them on Amazon. Only a few things came up. Actually my primary focus is buying on Amazon since I currently have $150 in gift cards from my reception.
Hahaha. Then def go Mars Aqua.
Been there!

That one looks better. It's missing UV/Violet which would help with coloring, but the neutral whites would probably have enough of the red spectrum to satisfy corals.

A lux meter is a fine alternative to a PAR meter to start. It will give you a good idea of what your surface PAR is and you can estimate from there. For a 10G tank the dropoff isn't going to be huge.
Yup. The red $15 lux meter from Amazon

I have almost the exact same one. I got mine from a seller off ebay, they can be had for 60-80 each. I run two over my 75 for a couple years now and love them. The red and green makes the colors really pop almost 3D like

Hi! Here is my short story with chineese light ;) i've bought one two month ago and everything was great, but when i began to understand processes in marine aqua it was not so good as it seemed to me. I have some difficalties with it's ajusting and deemeng. Nobody can say how i should set up settings for the good coral growth and fish. I tried a lot of combinations and now i have white chanel on minimum, blue max 85%, royal blue 85% max, red and yellow 0%. As i understand the LED light espesially made in china is not "plug and play". So now i ordered hybrid Hamilton light with T5 and LED for moon light and flure. I don't suggest you to order that, but maybe someone have a good experience in settings...

Not including the one above but a large majority of all these lights are made in the same factory overseas, Mars aqua included if you ask me. If you look at the build, LEDs and lenses it is pretty evident. I use my 165watt led's to grow high end sps and zoas for several years now. Stuff grows like weeds and I get much better coloration than my two 250watt radiums

I started with the mars aqua on my 75. I ran two they were great. I upgraded to a 180 now I used them at first with a arctic t247. I have recently replaced the two mars aqua with two more t247. I like them because they have timers and better coverage.

This should be enough... Lol 40k is basically 1/3 the lux from the summer sun at 4pm.

20k lux @ 2'
38.5k lux @ 1' 6"

I tested this on the counter. Totally blinded my eye (not actually blind.. But the similar effect of a camera flash only it lasted for a couple minutes of the outline of a fixture lol..)

I went with this programmable one, so far I like it but ive yet to set my tank up. The reviews are good and they're some coral growth pictures. They all seem to come from the same factory and other companies put their name on it. I've actually found the controller for my LED on a UK site for about 70 pounds. I personally would like to try and build my own with an ardino controller but im not that knowledgeable on the DIY. The blue fish controller seems really cool.

and doesnt the water effect the par reading? so doing it like that isnt going to be accurate? I have no idea how much it effects it though.

Seems like water would. But I don't have a par meter ;p

I've been thinking about this light a lot in the last few months. Specificaly for the lack of the "yellow" whites. The 4 channel controllability is nice too. What plug and play issues have you had?

Just turned the light on over my tank. Unfortunately the red green lights make it look a little like Christmas on my rock. Maybe I need the light higher up (not doing that though). Going to turn the white channel down as much as I can while still having it run. Nice little shimmer though. Homedepot tomorrow morning to build a stand :D I'll post photos if any are interested.
