Chloroquine Phosphate + General Cure

So, he is looking a bit better after being in the NFG overnight. Still doing some side swimming and still has white stringy poo.

I should have Neoplex tomorrow via Amazon, but I don't know how I am going to treat him, since I haven't seen the fish eat anything in about 3 days. Neoplex, Prazi and Metro seem like the appropriate treatments, but I get the feeling they won't be effective if he won't eat.

Also, wondering what I should avoid from a drug interaction standpoint. I know CP+GC is fine. I know Metro+Kanaplex+Furan2 is fine. I know Prazi+Metro is fine. No idea if NFG+Metro, NFG+Neoplex or Neo+Metro are okay.

Any advice would be appreciated on both the eating part and the drug combinations.

I would probably discontinue NFG after 4-5 days, and switch over to Neoplex + prazi + metro. Unless he starts eating whilst in NFG.

So, still side swimming, not eating and long stringy white poo in the NFG bath.

Filled up my other QT, matched the salinity and temp. Added 1 scoop of Metroplex (8 gallons of water, recommended dosage is 1 or 2 scoops per 10 gallons). Added 4 scoops of Neoplex (instructions say 1 scoop per 2 gallons). 2ml of PraziPro (based on 1 tsp/5ml per 20gal).

Went ahead and moved the bandit over to that tank. Observed him for about 5 minutes. Swimming got worse and breathing looked rapid. Eventually he ended up laying on his side on the bottom struggling to breath, so I pulled him out and put him back in the NFG tank.

I realize that the PraziPro recommended dosage is on the high side, so maybe that was the problem or something to do with worms/flukes inside of him dying? Maybe a bad combination of meds? I pulled 25% of the Metro+Neo+Prazi water out of that tank and replaced it with unmedicated water. May try again tomorrow at the slightly diluted dosage. I am running an airstone and a HOB filter that breaks the water surface, but maybe that's not enough??

Any thoughts?

Also ordered some Fenbendazole, but it won't arrive until 9/13-9/18, so I don't expect to have it in time. It's a pity that most of these medications are not all that readily available.

Doing a 100% WC on that QT and going to try General Cure + Neoplex tomorrow. Guessing that the issue was Prazipro.

You could try dosing Epsom salt (1 tablespoon per 5 gallons) in an attempt to push the intestinal worms out of him. But I think we both know the situation has become dire. I’m sorry...

Yeah, I will pull some water out and add some RODI and do that. I notice my salinity spike when I just add mag sulfate straight.

Think the other issue was a prazi OD or bad interaction between Prazi and the other drugs?

Is there any obvious red flags regarding the combination of NFG + General Cure?

My biggest concern is those 2 products contain a total of 5 different medications that the fish's kidneys/liver would have to filter.
Talked to a marine fish vet that I found online (had seen a couple videos he did). He advised I take the SG down to 1.020, cease the Mag Phospate and switch from NFG to Maracyn-2. It was a pretty short conversation since he was leaving MACNA when I randomly messaged. But going to follow his advice and keep my fingers crossed. Honestly I am very surprised my fish is still alive a week later.

Interesting, as Maracyn 2 (minocycline) is easily absorbed by calcium, making it a poor choice for treating fish in a saltwater environment.

Week later. Fish is still alive, not looking worse. Haven't noticed anymore white poo, but he is still side swimming and not eating. Trying to find a marine vet in the Los Angeles area who can take a look. Hoping I didn't do any organ or neurological damages with any of the other attempted treatments. It was only in CP when the symptoms started, so I am thinking that is probably not the case.

Still alive, eating a bit, no more white stringy poo. Still seems weak and mostly side swimming. This guy will be in QT for quite a while by the looks of things.

Well, maybe I got my hopes up. Added the 3rd dose of Maracyn 2 last night and a little bit of Fritz ACCR to combat ammonia (per the directions on the Maracyn). I generally hate ammonia removers and prefer to use old tank water, rubble, siporax and water changes to manage Ammonia.

This morning the fish was on it's side barely breathing. I did two 25% water changes and added carbon in case there is some sort of bad chemical combination, but it may just be too far gone. Once the carbon has been running for an hour or so, I will dose Nitrofuracin Green and see if that wakes him up.

Also considered an Acriflavine bath or Methylene Blue bath... This fish has really gone through the wringer... but either I find a hail mary pass to save this one or just forget about owning a Bandit for the next 2-3 years.

Back in the NFG, tons of long stringy white poo. Big enough that I was able to grab a sample with tweezers, too bad I don't have anyone to examine it and I think the fish has been affected too long. Added Fenbenzadole to the water... Really just a last ditch effort, as the fish doesn't look like it will survive the night.

Sorry to hear; it sounds like he is infected with an unusual, virulent strain of intestinal worm. :( Fenbendazole is probably your only hope at this pont.

Fish is still alive. In NFG and Fenbenzadole. Dosing the 3rd Fenbenzadole dose tonight.

Currently 76 degrees and 1.020 SG. Considering lowering temp a couple degrees and reducing salinity further. Also thinking about trying to get an O2 tank to see if I can raise the DO levels.

Did find a fish vet, but none able to do house calls.
