Hello, thought I would update everyone on my little miracle rescue cuttles that I found as eggs in the garden. Still have seven, been really lucky and found plenty of food they particularly enjoy, sand Amphipods of the beach and small crab are their faviorites.

I have done a little experiment which so far has paid off, I moved four of the seven into my 900l reef tank which has been fishless since May and so is running alive with critters....like plague proportion! Considering how fast they were growing and how they appeared to be establishing their own territory's and spending less time near each other I though I would seperatle them give them some space, so four are in the DS and three still in 100l breeder. My reef tank runs at 25C which is their upper temp tolerance but I been watching them closely for last 10 days for signs of distress. The four I moved are now three/four times the size of the others and look beautiful, all have their own space in the 6x2x2 mixed coral reef, they hunt all the tiny critters and now readily take dead foods offered. Seen them catching prey at their leisure when lights are out, they even eat brittle stars which is a good thing as I have millions of them and they totally leave my snails alone.

All recognise me and swim over to beg for food, proper wet pets more character than any fish I have owned.

wait you said you found eggs in your garden? how did that happen ? btw those things are awesome, keep it up.
I assume a bird or other predator dropped them, my garden wall is the sea wall so they never had far to travel.....plus super lucky!

Wow.

Did you take pix of the eggs? How did you know what they were?

That is totally awesome! It is great to see you took time and effort to take care of these little guys! :)
Thank you, I did consider putting them back in the sea to hatch but without being tethered to something they would have just ended up on the beach when the tide went out.
I will be gutted when I release them back into the wild but it be a happy day for them, until then I am just going to enjoy having them as the most fascinating, coolest aquatic pets I have ever kept.

very cool, sorry did you say you found the eggs? in your garden? what?

and they like colder water ? under 77 F?

Update...

Still growing like crazy, they really got the hang of changing colours now can literally pulse various colours across their bodies to express mood.
Eating predominantly crabs now and I have them on ones about a inch in size. These guys are getting on for two inches now.

They beg for food and get excited when I feed them.

Yes, think a bird or animal dropped them in the garden but my garden wall is the sea wall so they never traveled far.

They are found in our native waters where they can live 18 months to 2 years at these temps, but I believe they are also found further south in warmer climates but it effects their life cycle.

These guys are out of my reef tank as became big enough to be a threat to my Peppermints and clownfish, they can pretty much catch anything up yo same size as they are. I have them in a unheated tank.

I am still trying to rear them onto frozen food as currently only interested in live. But from what I have been reading they normally take frozen foods once they are over three months old and these guys are just over a month.
