Coral Beauty questions....

I am looking for a nice fish for my FOWLR (65 g ). I'm purchasing another this weekend. Currently I have an Ocellaris clown and a Pearly Jawfish. I really like the Coral Beauty, but how aggresive can they be? Do they mess with inverts at all? Should it be the last fish I add?

I had one in my 75 and never had any problem with aggression towards any other fish or inverts. He did wack several of my LPS.

Yea I read that they are the most peaceful dwarf angels, so I am crossing my fingers.

I've had a flame and a bi-color, not too bad. The bi-color was a bit more aggressive tho. The flame was really mellow, so i'm sure a coral beauty would be a good fish to add.

Well I have a 65g with only a pearly jawfish and clow in it, I really want to add maybe 3 more fish, a blenny of some sort, the coral beauty and maybe a wrasse. So do you think I should add him last?

Depending on what kind of wrasse you are adding I would add the angel last.

I will be adding some sort of fairy/flasher wrasse.

I wouldnt worry about it personally. you are not going to be able to avoid every situation. while my pygmy angel is the most aggressive fish in my tank it is hardly enough aggression for me to concern myself with. besides i think some moderate aggression is healthy.

oh and as your clowns get older and bigger, they will end up ruling your tank. So much so when you put your hand in they may bite you.

Yea I heard that about the clowns as well. Hey, Rockadile, what do you think is the better blenny, starry or lawnmower ?

i really cant answer that as i have not had experience with either. my best suggestion is to not get either just yet as i do not feel your tank is mature enough to support too many fish, especially herbivores. Just take things slow because only bad things happen quickly. All too many times I have seen people move to quickly, and lose $100's in livestock. We all have done it starting out and know its one of the biggest challenges to over come.

Another good reason for going slow is you may find that one fish you must have, and your tank will already be stocked to the rim. take your time, do your research, and choose your livestock carefully and not on whims.

How do you think a Six line wrasse would do in a community tank with inverts?

one of the most aggressive reef safe wrasse there is. if you get one add him last.

Hm, I may shy away from him then...my head is spinning in circles, I really dont know what fish I want. I'm obviously limited because its only a 65g tank. I want to keep it peaceful and I NEED a fish that won't harass inverts. I want my next fish to be one that really takes advantage of the whole water column, so I tried looking up wrasses, but I just dont know if the 2 LFS I go to will have them in or if they are pricey or not. I know I want to add the coral beauty but I want atleast one other fish that will swim around aswell. I really wanted that Diamond Watchman Goby but since it may not be compatible with my jawfish then t hat kind of rules him out. How many more fish do you think I can put in my tank?

depends on the size of fish, and your filtration. in a 65 gal i would not go over 7-8 small to med size fish. this is why i said choose wisely and take your time. medium being the size of the angel you want. royal gramma are nice, they can be a little aggressive but i never had issues with mine. Nobody is saying you should not get your diamond gobby, every fish is differant and they may get along just fine. for what it is worth most fish in the size and type you would be looking at will more then likely set up shop in particular areas of the tank. its funny most of my fish all hang out on one side of my tank and my 2 clowns claim the other side.

I just added a small school of blue/green chromis to my 55 and am very happy with them. They not only stay out in the open in their school but since they would be a target for predators in the wild, all the other fish stay out in the open instead of hiding all the time.

I had a coral beauty in a tank your size...to keep it short i should have added it last because he was an agressive little bugger, didnt like any new comers in his territory so good luck with that and a 6 line would only be worse if you didnt add that last.

I was thinking about getting a royal gramma but I read that they could be a little aggressive so I shyed away from that thought. I think I am definitely going to take the gamble with the Diamond goby because that is one fish that I absolutely want. I also thought about a red or purple firefish, so maybe I will get one of them over the wrasse and then a coral beauty, but I would still want another fish that really swims around, which brings me back to the wrasse lol

i love my royal gramma, a six line is a jerk straight up, ive had several and returned or qt'ed every one... i like the starry blenny plus i notice they will hide in the old large turbo snail shells kinda like the barnacle blenny... if youd really like a pretty fish that swims around a lot and that is pretty peaceful id try maybe a single bartletts anthia for your tank size, get a male that way if you upgrade your tank you can always add a harem to the new tank (i think up to 8 females), another blenny that i like is the tribal blenny.... sorry my post is all over the place im at work so im kinda switching back and forth
