you may also think about a lemon peel angel if you are set on a pygmy angel, they are very bright and dont just stay high in the water column theyll go in and out of rockwork no prob. the fire fish do like to jump so keep a lid on it, my red jumped out the other day for the first time, what an idiot, he hit the floor and is lucky i was standing there when it happened my dogs would love a sushi taste haha. a really peaceful fish you might think about its pajama cardinals since they are completely non aggressive even to conspecifics, their hierarchy is very strict and absolute so there is never any aggression so you can own a few and they'll stay out in the column

Actually a Pajama Cardinal was one of the fish on my original list, but in doing more research I found out that they do better in schools and I really dont want to get 2 or 3 of those fish and fill my tank up with them, and I didn't want to get just one, and have it be unhappy. Also on my original list was the Royal Gramma, in your experiences , do you find they are aggresive at all ?

I have two royal grammas, no issues from either and one is about 3-3.5 inches...my coral beauty can get a little aggressive from time to time but nothing that worries me. I had to get rid of my sixline, he never bothered anybody till I started adding more wrasses...he wanted to kill them all. As far as moving around, the sixline is the most active, the coral beauty a second, and the royal gramma swam around a little less. The pajama cardinals will just hover in place for the most part.

Do you think cardinals are ok alone in a tank or should they be introduced only with a few of them atleast? I think the Royal Gramma may definitely be my next fish, because it was on my original list and now everyone says they have had great experiences and I love the coloration.

i find that my royal gramma is not aggressive, hes more reactive. he just swims about to and fro but if my clown goby gets too close to the gramma in his hole then he'll stretch his mouth real wide and have this agro display but never leaves the hole... the six line killed almost 100$in fish (ORA orchid dotty back, ORA neon dottyback and almost killed the gramma) in 2 days. he was taken back to the store and just given back. i didnt want him to continue killing and i didnt want him in my tank, but i figured someone w/ a fowlr could use him. again if you want a pretty and active fish you can get the single Anthia until you have a large enough tank for a whole school/harem

I actually saw that Anthias at my LFS today, he got a whole school in, but I didn't want to buy the fish and break it away from its school so I figured I would shy away from that aswell. Your experiences definitely shut off my interest from six lines though. I think I will definitely get the Royal Gramma!

Lemonpeel is gorgeous and would be on my top for a fowlr. Not trustworthy in a reef though. Has anybody suggested a Midas blenny?

I'll do more research on the lemonpeel too. I have heard midas blenny suggestions but they are so close in shape to my Jawfish, and then the goby I plan to get, that I wouldn't want to add something even more similar into the tank.

my lemon peel never picked at my corals but thats the problem with pygmies... every one is different as far as reef safe goes, its more of an individual thing rather than a species thing which makes it hard to gauge. i love my gramma though. id feel bad about breaking the Anthia away from the school but if you get a male then you may be saving his life also since there are probably more than one male in the shipment. if there are multiple males in the same tank with females to the victor goes the spoils, so they will try to eliminate each other as a possible mate for the ladies

I think I will definitely get the Royal Gramma then continue from there. I'll do more research on the Lemon Peel because after seeing pictures, it is definitely a beautiful fish.

As far as feeding those Lemon Peels. In my brief reading it said that they require more seaweed in their diet. Would a seaweed clip weekly do the trick?

yah that should suffice (i used Ocean Nutrition Green Marine Algae Seaweed Select) and you can add emerald entree every now and again, that helps also. check the lemon peel out in person because the pictures dont do justice to the blue rimming and the eye.

I love the coral beauty in any tank that will be suitable for them! they are a really cool fish and will nip at lps when not feed regularly! this is the key feed them often and it would be good with the inverts and lps. I have had a few and never had any problems with them going after any other fish. You should be good with adding them as well I would not wait tooooo long to add more fish if you plan on it. All fish will get a bit territorial!

I have actually never seen a lemonpeel in any lfs I have been to so far. But just viewing them online has already made me want one over the coral beauty

they are beautiful (lemon peel), the also offer a hybrid but it has some diff coloration i personally loved the standard lemon peel. he had great personality, just a little issue w/ a previous tank mate unfortunately

What kind of fish did he have an issue with? Also how often do you see them in your lfs and what seems to be the average price?

i see them regularly at my LFS Bioreef in jacksonville fl... they usually run $35-50 depending on the shipment #'s. the hybrids usually run about $10-20 more. the lemon peel and my clown fish thought it would be a good idea to pick on the leaf fish all of the sudden right before i went to miami for the weekend. when i came back the leaf fish had disappeared and both the clown and lemon were floundering (for lack of better term). they were dead by tues. that was a big MISTAKE on my part. they never bothered each other for the first month i had them and then all the sudden BAM gang fight. i learned a $130 lesson the hard way (AKA the dumb way). never any poisonous fish in the reef again, ill keep those for species specific tanks from now on.

Well I got my Royal Gramma today, dripped it for about 1 hr. Its been about 2 hours since it has been in my tank. No idea where it actually is though. It's only about an 1 1/2 " maybe. Must have found a really good hiding spot.

They like to go in holes, he probably found some tiny obscure hole somewhere in your rocks and is hiding there.
