Could this be the Trident announcement?

In tonight video he shows you the bottle of calibration fluid and tells you not to use it right away, to not even open the bottle as the Trident needs to break in. Also I am not sure if you watch the BRS videos they do live but yesterday Randy also showed he's been running his for two weeks so far uncalibrated as you not suppose to use it yet.

Sometimes it is a price that we pay, if we choose that is, to be in the hobby with kits such as this. Here is another side of it. When I tracked my 2015 Mustang GT/PP I would change my oil after every weekend event. Probably didn't have to. Well within the mileage and overall temperatures but I did. I also replaced my track tires yearly for peace of mind. Maybe it is just my hobbies I'm into that I just don't see maintenance as an issue but like I said as we learn more maybe my mind will change and I'll say let us get the pitch forks and riot in the dungeon

I'm just going with a different product personally.

I hear yea when I used to track my Buell 1125R I did an oil change and changed tires after every track day.

The difference is, I was still able to enjoy my motorcycle without track days.

Just like I can run my reef without Trident.

I was waiting for Trident while my friends got the competition and they kept trying to get me to forget Trident and make the move as a Neptune fan I wanted to wait. Just disappointing to wait all this time for all these caveats to come out

Honestly $22.50/month for reagent and $100 every year and a half isn’t so bad.
Just think of it more as an insurance plan for your reef tank.

Yup. Terrence avoided the question ever since the update to Apex made the information available. The "Triton FAQ" thread was meant as nothing more than a hype train and fanboy gathering.

And even after the announcement, they still can't give people the actual cost.

And ultimately, it's less about the cost and more about basic disclosure. I wonder if he would have even brought it up tonight if someone wouldn't have asked? And the question wouldn't even have been asked if the videos weren't included in the apex fusion update. (Videos that were immediately removed from YouTube less than a minute after they got posted in the FAQ thread.)

Cynically, I'd say no. They wouldn't even have touched the topic.

Shady business practices 101: No need to worry about being anti-consumer if the competition in the space is sparse.

Yes - I would have never ever thought that it would be required to save the box to a product to allow it to be sent in year after year - I have never EVER bought a product with this requirement. If you can give me a similar example feel free. The more I think about it and read - the more ridiculous it seems .

Totally random but to shed a little light on the keeping the package thing. When I purchased my Samsung LED TV 7 years ago I had called Samsung support about some functionality issues I was having. And I asked if I needed it repaired what did I have to do? The Samsung rep had specifically told me I needed to ship it in it's original box to a samsung authorized repair center which for me at the time was 2 1/2 hours away. If it wasn't shipped in it's original box designed for the tv, Samsung wouldn't cover any damages to the TV that might have occured in shipping.

Things might have changed now but that's the way it was and I'm sure still is they just don't ever advertise it. So there's atleast one example for you

Yeah - its just that If I saved the package for everything I bought I wouldn't have room for the things I bought - IMHO - I have never owned a product that required a person to save packaging to send it back for routine maintenance. It may be needed - and if so - all good - but its an extreme negative to me to have to send it back routinely. Im not sure it was intentionally withheld as some have suggested - it may have been something they just discovered in testing - but because of the demand recommended doing it this way (I think based on what I've read that more information is forthcoming). I will probably pass until I see that this information is clear.

Except if you buy an insurance policy for your house from Berkshire Hathaway - you have decades of experience with that company. This is not an insurance policy - first - its new - not proven despite the (seemingly good) testing - second - they are not guaranteeing your tank at all. they are measuring parameters that can be measured other ways. its just a cool graph lol. Nothing more

The product has just been released to the public (or will be in 3 hours). Information will start to flow to the unanswered questions. It was already said in an earlier post a few pages back that those of us who are going to buy it would regardless of the cost so why hide it? Is it shady (not the real Slim Shady) business or is it that they didn't have the prices settled let alone the supply chain in place? I don't know. I know you are mentioning the hype train and fan gathering but maybe it is just a varying of opinion? I error on the side that there is a short term solution than a longer term one with regards to how the regents will be sold and the servicing managed.

I don't see this as a revenue generating stream at all. If that was their play then we would all be paying a monthly service fee for the fusion portal and we don't. They will make their money on the product sold both to existing customers and new. New customers specifically longer term if it works as advertised with accuracy. That is the end game. Not regents or maintenance. Just my opinion though.

Oh Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Neptune in any way, shape or form. I think the whole thing is comical and totally Neptunes style. I was merely providing you an example of another product that in order to cover yourself as the consumer you have to keep the packaging it came in. And thankfully I don't feel this is the norm with most things but on the same note, most things made nowadays are made to be disposed of and not fixed or calibrated.

Like Gilette and the razor blades. I think its fine - I have no problem with it at all. But to pretend that its something different seems really odd. Fact is - if im using this product to dose my tank - and I have to send it in and then wait weeks (as someone said - not documented) to re-use it - its a useless product. To announce - (or not clarify this) seems irresponsible to me. and I like the company and as posted before planned to buy the product.

As for the maintenance, Terence definitely didn't have enough information for my liking, in terms of concrete pricing/schedule (for a product this is being released tonight). However, I am pretty sure I remember him saying that it won't be required, just highly recommended (and even mentioned potential plans of having a replacement before you send in, but again, not enough information). And then not required that you send it in, just highly recommended. But you buy a probe, and have to perform maintenance on that. You buy a pump, and have to perform maintenance on that. DOS heads have to be replaced. Tubing has to be replaced. Etc Etc Etc.. Why is everyone so shocked that this has a maintenance recommended schedule? And parts are never free, and they will give you the option to do yourself. Doesn't seem like such a terrible system, or am I missing something?

My guess is that you dont want an answer to your final question - since its been answered multiple times. That said - this has been touted as 'a solution to dosing alk and ca'. If it has to be sent away to be maintained - thats a problem. If it has to be sent away and then recalibrated for days - weeks thats a huge problem. I'm actually surprised that you haven't read the posts written asking these questions - but now pretend that anyone asking a question is some kind of a fool. By the way the fact that the VP of marketing didnt have the information is not anyone here's problem - its Neptune's problem. They should IMHO have that information. You seem to agree with this - then back pedal. When you respond to a comment saying 'you dont like Neptune' but there are multiple people asking the same question - it might make sense to use the 'quote feature' on the forum so that people know to whom you're speaking - I own a ton of Neptune products - and have complimented them multiple times - I have respectfully asked and gotten excellent answers from @Terence many times. This time IMHO they have royally dropped the ball. No one forced them to release the product until they knew all of the information. My guess (and its a guess) - is that since the video released on the maintenance requirement - they felt the need to rush it - but its a total guess.

Everything you mentioned can be done yourself at home in minutes.

From what I gather reading the thread:

- You have to send it in to Neptune. DIY may be available but not recommended
- After Neptune services the unit you have to let it run for two weeks or more before you can use it again
- Neptune hasn’t actually confirmed or denied any of this, nor did they even mention any of it leading up to this point, which is pretty shady
