One of the things I will never understand in this hobby. You can scratch a glass tank with a mag float yet I once attempted to removed a nasty scratch on a aquapod by using 100 grit sandpaper hooked to a drill and sanded the glass all day for 6 days and it never even put a scratch in the tank. Go figure

+1 tunze. Haven't used the metal blade since the plastic ones work so great even on coraline. Comes with 2 sets of plastic blades but not sure if theirs 2 sets of metal ones since I never took them out of the paper. I prefer the plastic blades anyway since I can get close to the silicone without damage.

There's only one metal blade I had to use it had some heavy coralline but this thing is great will be getting two more for my other tanks. I used mag floats before and it scratch my glass never went back once sand get in them it's over. For years I just used a sponge then tunze came out with these there was a sale I took a chance and I'm very happy I did. I don't know how they did it but the magnet don't rest on the glass on the inside of the tank.

A lot of people don't realize that leaving the magfloats in tank between uses allows coraline, calcified worm tubes and other such growths to form which will scratch just as well as sand. I just use my wand scraper once a week. These flippers and tunz sound great maybe ill give one a shot.

This is all you really needed... Depending on which float you have, these are only $2.49. Cheap insurance to change the pads frequently and keep the magnet out of the tank when not in use.

nah, I'm too mad at it to buy it new stuff lol. I like the idea of it having egg crate glued to it while it sits in the corner holding my frags and watching me use it's replacement haha. I may even point and laugh at it while I'm scraping away all the algae near the sand that it couldn't clean

I bought y tank used... you should see what the previous owners did to the glass... OMG it's bad. Really really bad. I'm just ignoring it, but I wish I had seen it before I filled it with water so I could have buffed out some of the scratches

I service for a living and change the pad on my tiger shark two or three times a week, if I'm even slightly uncomfortable with the way it looks I change it. Scratches happen at some point no matter how careful you are, I'm pretty sure I've had tangs scratch acrylic with the tail bone attack they do.

Great reviews! I am really glad I went with the long now so I will have the metal blade. Although I do still worry about it getting a nick in it and scratching the glass lol. Have you had any issues with rust? That's another reason I went with the tunze. The flipper seemed to have a lot of reviews where rust was an issue.

i have a mag piranha and each time i clean the glass i remove it and wash it. itll last longer and have no worries of it scratching the tank

I actually abused the crap out of my blade by pushing it down in the sand and have never had an issue. I have always used hand scrapers with blades from Lowes or Homedepot but they rust and you have to get your hand in the tank. The Tunze doesn't rust!

As with anything metal it will eventually rust. Its all in the quality of the metal being used. I good stainless should last quite sometime though and as someone already stated if you take it out and clean it after each use to get the salt off with should last a very long time.
