Daves 35g Shallow Reef

Thanks Marv

I just replaced the bulbs. I switched the UVI 25/75 with a Fiji Purple and LOVE it.

awesome... that's probably the best combo... I might end up going back to that combo, but with 2 more Blue + on my 6 bulb retro... currently, I have 2 Fiji Purple, 2 22k AquaScience, and 2 blue +... :)

Wow. Must be a Blue tank ;)

I think it looks like old 14K Phoenix bulb with a little more pop.

Here's some photo's that I took today. I'm getting a little better with the point and shoot and the white balance and all that camera talk. I hope to pick up a new DLSR soon to keep up with all you guys. The Setosa, Undata and Mummy Eye turned out as my favorites. :D

Awesome pictures. I can't believe the amount of growth your getting on your war coral. If you wouldn't mind, I've heard about dosing vodka and what exactly does it do? Are you like using just plain old vodka from a liquor store?

Thanks. I think it has the perfect spot and it just takes off!

For the vodka dosing, its a different carbon source. There are a ton of links through RC that will explain it better. Sum it up, the carbon source ( vodka ) with added bacteria (MB7) brings down PO4 and Nitrates. I am not dosing everyday like most people and have been trying out 1mL of vodka on Sundays and 6-7 drops of MB7 everyday.

Hope this helps!

Hope everyone had a good Turkey day. Well my girlfriends brother has a older Digital Rebel that he is letting me use for a bit. It has a nice macro Sigma lens too. So before even cleaning the tank I had to snap some pictures... So out of 100 I took only a few turned out ok :P

This is my first time using a DSLR and on top of that this crazy lens that I am having to learn but trial and error! So please dont laugh! I think a few turned out well, I am going to do a water change and clean the tank tomorrow and I'll snap a TON and post them too.

The tank has been on auto drive, just dosing stuff and letting it go. The Superman, WM and Setosa have been roiding up and growing FAST!

Enjoy!

Thanks Marv. It has around 9 eyes now.

I am still on the search for two more chalices... Glow Stick and Desert Sun. I have a trade lined up for the DS but still lurking for a Glow stick.

Looks like the final tank size is going to be a Poor mans ELOS 70. Glass ordered.... 30x22x20. Beveled, low iron, 13mm :D I have this print that my girlfriend gave me a while back that I love. I am really thinking of starting new rock and aim for a rock scape like it. I'll post a picture today of it.

Well I needed a really lazy weekend. I have worked 12-15 hour days last week and needed some time to veg out. I snapped a few pictures and I will only add this one. This one turned out AWESOME :D

The FACE series tank is underway ( I am going to try and start a small side business and build custom tank and stand combos and this will be the first). I ended up adding everything together and with me only being 24 and looking for a house I did not want a tank that would be a pain in the butt to move. So I have this going and is a set in stone.... I am selling the SS stand and have a new steel stand being made and will be finished Dec. 15th. Tank glass has been ordered 13mm low iron, beveled and polished. I will have black silicon and the dimensions will be 30x22x20. This will be the start to a FACE series tank ;)

As for the the aquascape for the new tank that will be up in the air. My girlfriend gave me a really cool print that I look at every morning. I love the picture and I have been thinking of doing some type of aquascaping like it. Shallow rocks, overgrown coral forest, fish swimming through and inverts hiding in the depth of the corals and rock. Hell who knows, I think I could figure something out with 22" of depth to work with!

Any ways here is the picture from today and the print.

Thanks guys!

Well a few updates. The stand is going to be finished a little early.

Well I just got the quote back from Chris down in TX for a A.G.E tank. While there tanks are stellar, I was quoted 1475 for a 30x22x18. Little steep for my pockets! DIY it is.

The best part is I can use 3/8's on the glass!

I have been researching on doing a DIY PVC bottom tank with glass sides. Looks like a few people have done this and have had great success. The best part is it makes the tank a little cheaper :)

So...
30x22x18
1" Grey PVC Bottom Rabbet routed for 3/8" glass
Low Iron sides
Regular Glass back
Black Silicon
Rimless

I hope that this one turns out great. I will be using DOW 795 for the PVC to Glass part and routing around the edge so the glass fits on a ledge. I hope that I can build smaller tanks with PVC bottoms at a better price.
