Hey guys... so I plan on buying this tank pretty soon. My build is gonna be super slow probably but I was just wondering how other members had theirs set up equipment wise. I plan on making it a mixed reef with maybe 6-7 fish pending which types.

I currently have a Fluval Evo 13.5 and I'm gonna upgrade from that. I've had larger tanks before(up to 150g) but it's been some time since I've owned one so big.

I'm gonna bring my AI Prime HD and my Tunze 3155 ATO over from my Evo and that's probably about it since it's that's an AIO tank.

Anyone have any suggestions on a sump, skimmer, reactor, and/or powerheads??

Just figured I'd ask around before I start doing my research. Thanks in advance!!

Eshopps r100 3rd gen sump seems to be in high regard. I've seen those in person. Very cool sumps. Only one design flaw... the return pump chamber is small and obscured by the fuge section otherwise they are cool and run silent.

Can never go wrong with an mp10 for a powerhead imo.

My LFS has those sumps on the shelf. I'll have to take another look at it and see. I was honestly thinking maybe an mp40. Do you think that'd be too much even on the lower setting side?

Unfortunately, if you go with Vortechs, you'll need the MP40s because of the 1/2" glass. Some people have used MP10s but often times the wet side will spin if turned up and it could decouple quite easily. I'm in the process of the same build myself. Check out my signature for the gear I've collected so far.

Also building a deep blue 57. I was looking at the jebao dct4000.. $70... people bash jebao but i could buy 2 of these for the price of any of them on BRS.. haven't decided on it yet though- i could be talked out of it i'm sure

I used a dc12000 I believe on my 150g a few years back and I loved it! The fact that it's cheap, controllable and not hard hitting on the electricity is awesome. That's honestly the brand return pump I was going to get for this build

If you do go with the Eshopps R-100 sump, make sure that the Jebao will fit in the tight return section. I got the R-200 for my 57 build and bought the Tunze DC controllable 1073.050 as my return pump.

Have any pics of your setup? I can't seem to find your build thread

No build thread yet. However, if you rotate your phone horizontally to landscape view, you'll see all the gear I've collected for my 57 build in my signature.

There is also an eshopps RS 100 which doesn't have the fuge and has more area for return pump. Unless u need the fuge....

I'm looking into Trigger systems as well. I really like how they look.. but I'm still looking at all my options. I wanna figure out what kind of skimmer I want then accommodate it to the right sump footprint.

Not sure how to do that to be honest. I clicked on your name but can't seem to find your "signature"

Actually I kind of like the look of trigger systems as well. I haven't heard of them though. My lfs carries eshopps. Gotta research I suppose. I'm considering doing a deep blue 45 gallon shallow tank myself.

How much money do you have? I always reccomend you build your own sump unless you have a crazy amount of money. I could build a Trigger Systems Sapphire 39 for $70 instead of $525 :P
I would reccomend the best skimmer you can get. For a 57G mixed reef with moderate/high stocking I would try and get a skimmer that can handle 120 gallons or more. I don't personally use any reactors since I've found a media bag filled with carbon or whatever you're using works just as well. Powerheads I say 2 MP40s if you have the money. There are more budget friendly options though. Some of the Jebaos are nearly as good but a fraction of the price

Yeah my LFS carries esshops as well. Trigger I'd have to order online and pray it doesn't get delivered broken or cracked. I had a custom 54g acrylic sump delivered to me from Florida before and surprisingly it showed up with just a tiny piece broken off the corner.

Money isn't an issue but I'm not gonna fork out thousands of dollars over 2 days. I'm gonna slowly purchase this system piece by piece.

If I was crafty I'd build my own sump as well but I'd rather leave it to the experts and have some type of warranty haha. I was looking into higher rated skimmers for a few mins last night while I was at work.. haven't really found one I like yet but we'll see.

I was thinking of doing jebaos but I hate having wires in the tank. I may just start off with 1 mp40 and get another one down the line. Unless i come across a deal on here for em.

That's why I chose the R-200. The skimmer section is 12x14 inches... gives me plenty of room to accommodate my old school venturi driven Lifereef SVS2-24 skimmer.

Quick question... if the tank only has 1 drain, could I still get a sump that has 2 filter socks side by side?

I'm 15 and my first ever DIY project (reef tank or not) was my sump. I just used an empty 10 gallon, scissors, silicone and a 50 gallon rubbermaid bin. I cut baffles using the rubbermaids plastic and siliconed them down. Since then I have obviously fixed it up and used plexiglass instead and pretty soon will be upgrading my 46 to a 20 gallon tall sump.
I will definitely post pictres so if you don't have a sump by then you can look at mine for inspiration and I would be more than happy to help explain in detail if you decide to go the DIY route :)
