Fact is, you will get pests eventually anyway. Might as well place a live rock in there to help the cycle. I used 7 year old sump rock covered in aptasia and vermitid snails. In a month, most were gone and in 2 months negligible. There are means to control pests but no replacement to biodiversity. I went all SPS in the second month with no losses. That’s how good live rock is.I rather not use live rock because of pests, most advocated dry because no pest I'm dosing nitrifying bacteria every day, and i also have ruble with coral i got that I have attached to the rock so i think that should also seed the tank ? Some even have Coraline algae.
