Do you Coral QT

My concern regarding acropora qt is that they will have a tough time making it through qt. The conditions of qt are most likely not as ideal as they are in the display. Any thoughts on this?

Simple approach, awesome. Do you keep your tank up and running ?
I do, who knows when I will need additions to CUC or some coral that I see. But I don't add anything until the tank is empty, I don't want to keep restarting my cycle.

I can agree with this statement. Especially if it’s not stable, I’ve had several acros RTN in QT because I forgot to fill the ATO and it’s so small that minor difference is actually significant

Eh I think it is fine

Do you have live rock in there ? If so, what difference does it make ?

From those that don’t QT, have you ran into any problems ? If so how did you handle them ?

QT vs controlling the issue

I really like the idea of dosing ammonia rather than nitrate or phosphate. I would assume coral foods could be a way to keep your nutrients up

Ammonia dosing could be a way to have a ‘pure’ source of ammonia such as ammonium chloride in order to keep your phosphates and nitrates up.

Supposedly, testing ammonia isnt very reliable when looking to test how much has been added to a tank. I wouldn’t know if a test would read ammonia or not, something about free ammonia I water bla bla bla…

I guess testing nitrates or phosphates testing would be an easier way to measure if you have a healthy amount of ammonia

Honestly, I wouldn’t be testing in my coral QT

Small correction, but dosing ammonia won’t impact phosphate. There is no phosphorus in an ammonia molecule.

Do you QT coral ? If so what is your process

For those that don’t what do you do and have you ran into any issues ?

What are you QT for ?

Are there any coral that you do not QT ? (Softies, nems, etc)
I do not. I dip them and scrub the bottom with a toothbrush. I make sure not to scrub the white tissue of the coral.

It would be easier to WC with your DT water since it should already have nutrients. For those with a nano, I would assume you could add freshly mixed saltwater and add your display tank water in the freshly mixed water too

Example

20 gallon DT w/ weekly 20% water change = 4 gallons

10 gallon QT tank 50% water change - 4 gallons from DT + 1 gallon of freshly mixed SW

Do you guys have your tank cycled if so why ?

How’s that method going for you and any tank shot ?
It has been going great and is very easy so just scrub off all of the algae and anything else like snails and the coral is clean. All corals look goods. Tank is till young and only have 6 corals. Getting some more tomorrow
