Currently, only one of my fish has a name. A swallowtail angel named Fatboy because...well. he is!

Yes my teenage boys named them foxface was named horseface because it does have a horseface. Blue tabs is named fata$$ because it eats everything. We had a copperband butterfly they named Donald Trump because of how the mouth is all the time you know duck lips look.

In general I don't name my fish though I do sometimes call them names! Exceptions are fish that are more meaningful to me. My copperband butterfly given to me by Humblefish was named Beaker (for obvious reasons). Some of my clean up crew has names...in particular a 6-7 year old turbo snail that is huge and nick named Tiny.

We are tied! 50/50
This is not clearing up the debate at all!

I stopped naming my fish because a few died shortly after being named and got me paranoid. My 1st ever saltwater addition, pictured in my avatar and proudly still roaming my tank, is Pinchie. I’ve got a pistol shrimp and watchman goby pair called Tex and Mex. and a clown I like to call Cujo for obvious reasons.

A guy at my local fish shop told me years ago as soon as you name them they die. Obviously not true but I haven't named one since ;Playful

All fish are named - and the odd snail and hermit crab. My favourite name is one my son gave to a beautiful, happy-go-lucky yellow wrasse: Dark Wolf.

I don't name the clean up crew, but I do have some resident hermits I have had for a few years.....the orange one, the blue one, lol.

I only name them after a 5-6 week quarantine and after two weeks in the display tank. Try to make sure they will make it ... but have had my share of "unmarked graves"!

Same as me. I don't want to waste a good name.

That being said, I always lose a piece of my heart when I lose a fish. I take it very personally.

I dont name my fish unless they have a very distinct characteristic. Like the lawnmower blenny is called 'old man' and the sixline is 'sixnine' ( for 6ix9ine) other than that my 4 clownfish are all called nemo: white mama nemo, baby white nemo, big orange nemo and baby orange nemo lol.

My house is divided! I’ve never named my fish, they’ve always been species name as their name. Example: Midas or snowflake or 6 line. What do you do?
Had a snowflake eel named Amore! (get it?)

Sometimes I made puns, sometimes not, but it was always some kind of joke. Marilyn was a valentini puffer with a beauty mark, Damsel in Distress was a neurotic damsel of course.... the starry blenny was Jar Jar, the list goes on. It was just too much fun coming up with ridiculous names and/or letting my nerdy friends name them. :)

My wife likes to name the ones with the most personality. Not all get names but we've had George Clowny (clownfish), Buster (Chromis) Mr grumpy face (Starry Blenny) and John Lemon (yellow watchman goby)
hahaha Mr Grumpy Face... that's perfect. my starry blenny was "Jar Jar" but the tank award for grump face went to the eel, who I sometimes called "ANGRY PERSON" (you have to say it in funny voice lol)

I was told that naming a fish leads to their demise... I didn’t take the advice and my names spawn from all kinds of weird things:

My Tangs are all named starting with D:

Daryl (Blond Naso after Daryl Hannah)
Dave (after a local bartender)
Dan (a lieutenant tang named after the Forrest Gump character)
Dory (well... you know)

Mo (lawnMOwer Blenny, get it?)

My kid named my red flame hawk “Red”

Clowns are “Thing 1” and “Thing 2”

Naming fish is fun, not sure why you wouldn’t?

I’m curious if anyone names their corals because I really hadn’t contemplated that until just now?

The only things that don't have a name in my tank are the dartfish and the snails. Even some of my corals have had names

All fish, even the corals are named in my tank. The chromis can be a challenge - bumphead is easy but differentiating Harry from Barry from Gary can be tough. Finding Nemo gave me most of the other names. Adds to the personality and the bond I think. I had to laugh the other day when I heard my 5 year old yell out - "Gill, stop eating fluffy you ****** bag!". Fluffy is an Acan.
