I finally pulled the trigger on 4 blue gudgeons that had been at a LFS for 2 weeks. They are in qt and haven't seen them out yet, about an hour ago. Hope to see them at feeding time.

That's odd. I have only seen gudgeons ie of a handful of things, jumping, major injury from darting into a hard surface, starving from a hunger strike, and obvious bacterial infection.Woke up this morning to 1 of 4 gudgeons dead, have seen 2 of the 3 remaining out together. A bit stumped and hoping we don't loose another. I was going to start ttm and Prazipro today but am going to hold off at least another day.
It didn't jump Because I have my top completely covered. I should have taken a pic. Any thing I can do to help the other 3 settle better? Just providing cover, pvc is usually sufficient. It didn't jump Because I have my top completely covered. I should have taken a pic. Any thing I can do to help the other 3 settle better? My qt is in the kitchen and we have been avoiding going in there when we see them out.
@Humblefish brought up that this was a male and I have another in the tank. I have noticed that there is 1 less shy and another in time typically follows. Do they pair up?Just providing cover, pvc is usually sufficient.
They are more social than firefish. So even though firefish will pr up and kill the third, dartfish will remain social. I have had and seen groups from as few as 2 to as many as 12 without issue.@Humblefish brought up that this was a male and I have another in the tank. Im going to be tempted to get a few more once these are through quarintine unless that would be a bad idea. I like the group thing and when I got these 3 were together while 1 had moved itself into the next tank. They are more social than firefish. They are a little skinny so I wouldn't be surprised if the fourth was too weak. Adding a group of gudgeons to an established group shouldn't pose a problem.
The skinny part is why I'm going to hold off on treating. Granted I'm super tempted to do half a dose of Prazipro sooner rather than later. Those signs are just to tell tell. Baby gates are up to prevent dogs from going in the kitchen to decrease activity there. They are a little skinny so I wouldn't be surprised if the fourth was too weak. Hardest part is sitting there and not moving to be able to watch them lolthey do look much better! good news
