Sorry but it looks to me it is a goner. You might possibly be able to frag some of the branches that are showing some growth and they may survive. If your alk. is too high that may be the cause of this issue.

How do I lower alk it has always been lil over 12 and mag has always been lil over 1400 but calc stays around 450 490 ish ph stays around 8.2 I have not seen mag or calc drop ever I don't use a doser just use fuel once a week, phyto every other day, zooplankton ever couple days but never use all on the same day. Any suggestions?

Update:
Lost the entire colony of birdsnest even the frags i took.

Not only that the whole tank seems to be dying what went wrong?
ORA green finger leather showing no polyps and shedding skin, almost all zoas/palys not opening, BTA closed up and hasnt opened fully what could have gone wrong. we done nothing different than we have for the previous year checked all levels and all in range the only thing we did not do is a water change on time but it was only 10 days over our normal every month change id shoot some pics but no cam at the moment the hammer, frogspawn, montiporas, war coral, lepto, duncan, plate coral and wide variety of shrroms/ricordeas seem to be fine anyone with any ideas????

Swings of any kind can take life. Some corals are more lenient than others. I have a buddy here in texas that lost 2 corals due to temp change. He was gone and weather here went from 50s to 84 in a day or so. His tank experience a 5 degree swing in 24 hours that was enough to take them out. Even though his tank has been at this temperature before and nothing was harmed. It's the quick swings of any parameters that can kill.

not sure if there has been any temp swings it has been fairly warm for December but the ac and heat should keep the house at 70-72 year round but its as good a answer as any

No problem. I wasn't saying it was temp. Just any type of parameter swing. I lost several corals to a alk swing b4.

In my experience if a coral goes that quick then there was a drastic change in the tank.

i dont have these quality meters just drops the api and red sea alk, mag, cal its not easy to see the color change but the numbers have all tested about the same as always wether i read it right ir not lol

you think slacking on the WC made that much of a difference ? the only thing we done diff is waited on the WC and used seachems reef dip on a cabbage leather with a hole in it but its doing fine LOL

Water change would have done it slower. I haven't done a water change since February. I dose and export nutrients through a highly overrated filtration system.

i have heard of the voltage thing but not sure how to test for it the paint does come off my heaters now and then like flakes off my arms in it all the time no shocking yet lol

nothing was added before i saw the birdsnest start dying i dont know if anything poisonous is in the tank i think the most poisonous is the mandarin goby but hes still alive does get bullied by the sixline now and again but not always

Is it possible something got put into the sump or tank by accident? Or maybe some insect fell in and died like a couple lady bugs or something? I always hope my kids will never throw a penny in my sump.

had been running carbon for a while and phosguard just took both sacks out yesterday when i pulled the filter and skimmer and powerheads to clean them thinking maybe its buildup or something somewhere what is perplexing is how fast the birdsnest died was literally not even 12 hrs not the anemone has me worried its never stayed closed long and its well over dinner plate size or was should i say

Sorry for your lost. It seems the birdsnest was doing well in your tank until recently. Doing a large water change may have helped.

One of my SPS was so sensitive to high salinity / alkalinity that it started to RTN overnight. I was able to catch it and fixed the issue right way. Once all parameters are at normal the SPS continued to RTN. Fortunately one one branch survived which I can frag once its starts to get bigger. Its a nice blue SPS.

Hopefully you find out what caused it and update the thread so we can all learn from it.
