Dying birdsnest

My birdnest died too. Idk what the problem is.. My tanks temp is roughly 83F tho. Could that be it ?

dont have a sump or refug on this system didnt know much about it when i started the tank a yr ago we have a 125 with all that we are about to move into but sheeze brought home the 125 and 10 days later all heck breaks loose did do a 30% WC last night and cleaned everything stirred sand powerhead blew off the rocks

How often do you stir the sand? I'd never do that! If you have anoxic bacteria living in there you will release methane gas into your water column, very likely that is what happened. At least not impossible at all.

was a nice volleyball piece or sour apple birdsnest got it at a great deal 110 for the whole thing prolly never catch that guy feeling as generous again lol just odd that things are stressing in diff parts of the tank but things between them are not like a superman mushroom i know when its not doing well gets green strings out of it and all can seriously move the light back towards the back of the tank for an hour and he will freak out so very sensitive but other things seem not bothered. not sure if a small green emerald crab that died the other day which was only in the tank a few hours before noticing would do but ammonia and nitrates are spot on sigh think ill go backto goldfish lol how many can i get in a 125

make sure to get another birdsnest frag. i am sorry for your loss, but they are the first coral to tell you something isnt right.

they will tell you beyond any test kit.

good luck!

never stir the sand?? its not really sand but coral rubble and its not very deep we took most out a while back i only do it when it stars browning a little but it does really cloud the water with detrius when i do it but had not done that BEFORE the birdsnest died

depends. if his sandbed is less than 3 inches i doubt it.

it is less than 3 inches not even an inch but does get very cloudy when i have done it before

yeah they do 12 hours and dead is way better than a test kit lol

hydrogen sulfide or methane will not occur.

this is a simple example of what i always preach.

get a birdsnest and if you can keep it for a month. your aquarist skills are good enough for others.

i killed 10+ frags of birdsnests before i got my parameters stable enough to move on to another sps.

keep alk stable. and nitrates detectable.

birdsnests are "trainer" sps

got a brand of tests you like? its hard to make the colors out on mine at timesis it blue is it purple who really knows?? thanx a ton for the info you guys

the tritation syringe level does not have to be consistent if you have reagant left over upon completion of the test.

(the air bubble can vary if you are sloppy like me)
