Eric's 300Gal Build!

So now that you are getting everything up and running, what's your opinion on the glasscages tank? I'm thinking about having one built by them.

You know so far Im happy with the tank. The only thing that could change that now is if it were to start leaking or something worst that I don't even want to type lol. Before I purchased the tank I spend weeks searching all the forums and 99.9% of the threads I came across the major problem was "sloppy" silicone. I can only speak for myself since I have not seen any of those tank. I did have the opportunity to look at another 300g tank just like mine built by Glasscages in 2009 and let me tell you the silicone on that tank was as clean as it is on mine. The only parts where they got a bit sloppy was on the top and bottom euro bracing but for me thats not an issues since the bottom bracing will be covered by the sand and the top bracing will be hidden by the canopy. Don't get me wrong, when I say sloppy what I mean is that it could had been a bit cleaner not that it will not hold or come apart overtime. Overall Im happy with the tank.

Update - 12/21/2014

Sorry for the lack of updates but there hasn't been much going on to really give an update.

The tank has been cycling and we all now how slow the process is. In the meantime I've been getting a few things done when I have time because the last couple of weeks have been really busy at work.

I made a PVC stand for my skimmer and put a piece of 1/4" glass on top of the stand.

I build this panel to mount my apex and the modules I currently have and any other I get down the road.

Painted to match the stand

I also got a shipment from Ocean Revive with my lights. Total of 8 Arctic T247. I will only be using 6 on the display and one for my regifum. The extra one I will keep it as a backup.

Lay them out on top of the canopy to figure out how to mount and the spacing between each fixture.

Installed the supports for each light and the eye bolts Im going to use to hang them from the canopy.

Not the best picture but I finally have light in the tank… Still have to do some adjustments to the fixtures.

Everything is looking fantastic, I made a similar skimmer stand but used eggcrate instead of glass, lights look great too.

Thank you! I used glass for the top of the stand because this skimmer is big and heavy.

Update: 01/02/2015

This past weekend I was able to installed the doors on the canopy and stand. Haven't really taken many pictures but I was able to get a few with my phone (not the best). I still need to install the last two door which are on the right side of the stand and canopy.

I took a couple of pictures of the rock work and sorry for the crappy pictures but we all know how difficult it is to get decent pictures of our tanks under these blue lights and specially trying to do so with an iPhone.

Not sure why in the picture you can see different colors of lights but in person it's really not noticeable.

I'm happy to announce the cycle is complete!

Will probably add the fish few fish Sunday or Monday. I still need to do some cable management and finish the manifold for my reactors.

The build is so enormous and awesome I am kind of speechless. You certainly do not do anything half ****.

You should be very proud.

Sorry for the late reply but I never got an e-mail notification that someone replied to this thread like I normally do. Thank you for your comment. This will most likely be my last upgrade (unless I buy a bigger house) so I tried to make it the best I could.

Last Monday I added 2x clowns, 1x Blue Tang, 3x Green Chromis and a wrasse (can't think of the name now). So far they are all doing good and no signs of ammonia or nitrites in the tank.

I have a shipment of fish coming in tomorrow that include the following…

15x Small Green Chromis
1x Smith's Blenny
1x Green Clown Goby
1x Yellow Clown Goby
1X Tailspot Blenny
1x Yellow Watchman Blenny
1x Sailfin Tang
1x Pulcher Blenny

The tank is looking good!! Thanks for updating! :)
