Everything is gotten expensive

If this turns political we’ll have to close this thread. I’ve already edited one post. Please no political references. Sorry we can’t watch these threads all day long so this is the only warning. Hope everyone understands.
Please close if this violate the policy. No pond intended.

Two years ago it cost around 6 grand to get a shipping container from China to US. Currently cost is upwards of 20k. The expenses get passed on to us.
And some people wants everything make here. I can’t even how many people will walk out of this hobby lol. How much is this wavemaker? $500, how much is this tank? $10k .....

A lot of us often overlook the used market. This hobby and others. Some people like to upgrade and often sell their previous for less. Deals are out there and we should all look.

Great point!
Yeah I wish there’s someone local bought a pallet of amino and decided not to use them lol

I know you gotta pay to play and I wasn’t living in the cave that knew stuffs gotten expensive but boy that Red Sea energy is $145 plus tax for the 5L jug.

I am about to run out and thinking switching back to just acropower for my sps dominated and mixed reef tanks.

Will acropower sufficient for mixed reef for you out there?
Funny is- I was looking live sales earlier and saying to myself- Prices have skyrocketed.

AI and Ecotech supposed to increase soon :)
They already did and more, sure someone will chase them not me. When that Nero 5 broke and they wanted $145 to repair it, I was done! It was less than total of 1.5 year of use. It was the controller over heated but the light is still on.

one thing I found out is that the controller is attached to the propeller so that you can just replace the controller. They did that in purpose. If you own a Jebao, the controller and propeller are separated that reduces chances of being water damaged or easily replace the controller like my case.

I wish more and more competitors out there give our hobbyists more choice with more reasonable prices.

Is that since begining2022 or the dawn of covid19
The annual rate has never been 7.5, last year, which was the highest it’s been in a decade, was 4.7 (owing largely to the last 3 months of the year). The month of January 2022 was 7.5, but that’s not the yearly rate. There are so many reasons why the rate is currently so high, mostly all relating to the global pandemic, trying to turn it into a political issue is misguided.

Well here is another option for everyone. We are a community. We know there are various things going on in the world that are impacting day to day lives of everyone. This isn't political it is just the truth. We here among us have corals in our display that are similar to crops we grow to eat or gardens we grow to attract bees, butterflies, and beauty. Many here among us even have frag tanks.

Maybe it is time we, as a community, stop focusing on the social media side hustle and share with fellow hobbyist in our area. One way to lower the cost is to look no further than our own display, what we clip and trip, and give those away. Equipment as already noted can be sold as we upgrade. Salts and other expenditures that can be managed by smart shopping similar to what we used to do by clipping coupons before shopping.

Yes, I use TM Pro Reef Salt but I can be just as successful by using standard IO or collected NSW. Dosing can be reduced by going back to kalk and more frequent water changes. We have options and can help one another.

If so, their second increase in last 15 months
I own a couple retail furniture stores....we've had at least 6 price increases in the last year. Lead times are still garbage. Some companies are trying to pivot to mexico for production to break the reliance on the asian labor markets. The stock market has been consolidating for the last two months, with a lack of liquidity. We've spent ourselves into a crisis.

....so anybody wanna unload a used algae scrubber? lol.

This kind of advice is just so completely divorced from reality.

Not really. Break it up. The first part says stop buying expensive stuff. This has already been noted through out the thread. It is about picking and choosing and knowing that there are multiple tools available that will be equally successful. They have a very valid point. As far as asking for a raise or find another job that one I will give you. Not everyone is comfortable for asking for a raise and not all jobs allow that sort of thing. I get their point though.
