Everything is gotten expensive

It just depends on what state the nurse is working in and what hospital. Also what part of the state.

I feel bad for new grads (my daughter being one). Hospitals are hiring left and right but they are not picking up new grads because they want the nurse up and running tomorrow instead of going through the normal process, precepting, etc. To your point about travel nursing though I'm seeing a lot of offers for new grads but I think that is highly risky and not something I would partake in. Experienced though - that is another story and can bring in some extra income for sure.

medical surgical usually hires new grads. Some day shifts but mostly nights.

I spend next to nothing on my reef. It’s on autopilot.

Mrs Wages - cheap
Diy NoPox - vinegar and rock gut vodka - cheap
50 gallon water change every 3 months - reef crystals - cheap
pellet Food (actually feeding cyclid food for the last 2 years - cheap
Poly for quilting to remove Detritus - from Walmart - cheap

This hobby doesn’t have to be expensive.

If people would decide not to pay $900 for a single LED fixture there would be no $900 fixtures for sale, either they would lower the price or not manufacture them. My guess is the price would be lower but if people are buying why not keep it inflated.

I just got a NICREW LED …My standard practice is not to buy cheap stuff with manufacturers prejudice for German made vs Chinese…
Still anymore given mean time between failure for reefing gear and obsolescence cycle, some of the higher end Asian imports are looking more attractive …
IMO in the end the buyer dictates pricing

I know you gotta pay to play and I wasn’t living in the cave that knew stuffs gotten expensive but boy that Red Sea energy is $145 plus tax for the 5L jug.

I am about to run out and thinking switching back to just acropower for my sps dominated and mixed reef tanks.

Will acropower sufficient for mixed reef for you out there?

Everything in the entire world has gotten more expensive and will take time to readjust.

As for acropower, yes it works but is not the exact same.

This is what would drive my decision. Gets the job done? Go cheaper. Not exactly what I needed. Buy exactly what will.

So is there a proof that one is more superior? To my understanding acropower is not just for sticks.

Sorry, someone had to

Honestly I don't think reefing things have gotten all that expensive... At least not much more than other things have. Certainly not moreso than other hobbies have. The surge of remote work has enabled people to do more productive and fulfilling things with their time than sit at a desk and pretend to be working. This increased demand for hobby equipment. At the same time, supply chain issues are making it hard to ship things half way across the ocean.

Normal coral prices are mostly the same, with the exception of maybe torches. I just bought a hammer frag for $60 which is a lot prettier than the ones that were $70 at my LFS when I started. Aquacultured frags are so cheap now. Feel bad if you're a newbie who doesn't realize that the "hot" hyped up frags right now will be 10 times cheaper in a couple years when they are in everyone's tanks.

It seems like the amount of bottles of who knows what that people buy these days is much more than when I started. People are spending money on stuff that we used to just wait out? Chemicals to remove hair algae, bottled bacteria, dosing esoteric trace elements? These things were not popular when I started 10 years ago or at least they didn't seem to be, maybe I am wrong. This stuff is not very expensive though so I don't think this is adding to the perception that reefing is more expensive.

ME polyp extender is better than acro power. ME polyp extender 1 gal $70 close to 4l.

7.5% My behind!!! I sell commercial products and we Have seen a 32-35% product increase across the board from most manufacturers from Nov 2020 to Dec 21. We hear 7.5 because that takes all products even those that don’t sell but make no mistake the key items and products are all double digit increase. Our shipping charges alone are also up over 25% and now have fuel surcharges all over the place. It’s going to get worse and so is supply chain shortages.
Speaking as a non-marine business owner that ships direct, I can confirm shipping charges have exploded by almost 30%, and I’m expecting all carriers’ pricing to go up more this year.
Welcome to the age of stagflation.

There are multiple reports or companies (mainly huge corporations) that are raising their prices JUST because they know everyone will blame inflation. The meat packing industry was the worst. Inflation went through the roof, but somehow, so did the corporations profits.

not saying that is the whole story. There is a perfect storm of massive consumer demand, a rebuilding and reorganizing of supply chains, and to top it all off, we printed more money in one year than we already had in circulation. Permanent and temporary inflation was bound to happen.

Small increases in price, like what we saw with Neptunes stuff, makes sense, but you have to wonder: if some of the inflation goes down, will the prices they raised go back down? If they don’t, then we will really have something to be annoyed with.

Just shut down a small business. Costs went through the roof, USPS delivery costs increased with poor service, P.O. Box fees up, URL fees went up and I finally realized it just wasn’t worth it. Luckily it was a side hustle and supported this hobby.

I truly feel for the small business people out there depending on this economy to support them. The storm is gaining speed and is getting ready to put a real hurting on the little guy. Best of luck folks!

That sucks. Speaking of usps or shipping in general, I am still waiting on a package that’s being shipped for over a week already and still haven’t gotten it.

Prices will go down if the cause of that price move was a temporary issue i.e. backed up supply lines or insufficient production. Increases due to general inflation don't reverse generally speaking (unless there is a recession or depression, which you don't want obviously).
